i'm thinking we will play 4222, basically with wing backs, two holding players that will drop into the LB or RB position when one of the wingbacks goes forwards and 2 AM, with Sigurdsson on the Left of Center and James on the right of Center, then the two strikers

To be clear he is not "out wide" on "on the wing" the AML position generally operates no wider than the edge of the 18 yard box, the LB or LWB provides the width on the overlap. Sigurdsson doesnt really have the pace to be a wide player for me, but he is useful in and around the box and has more influence further up the pitch. I think playing him further back is a waste, he doesnt have the pace to get up with the attack and isn't really useful as as CDM.

So you fit an absolutely gash Sigurdsson into your starting 11, but no Gomes?

Well, this is the Sigurdsson thread, so Gomes is not in the side, because this is a specific way to set up a team. Gomes might play in that formation in place of James or Sigurdsson. But I actually dont think Gomes can play a CDM role that Allan or Doucoure can play.

He can’t play anywhere in the team if we want to be successful. It’s like walking into the price with ten. Just get rid of him.

Spot on, he`s played as 10 ( allegedly his best position ), out wide and in the middle and repeatedly stunk the place out.

If James, Allan and Dacoure come in, that makes him as good as redundant and at best a bench warmer.

We aren`t a club that can afford to swallow wages like his for warming the bench.

You make the point of his wages though. Even if we find someone mad enough to want him we are going to end up paying 50% of his wage aren’t we. Criminal how this clubs been ran over the last 4 years.
