If we don’t sell him and he continues to be crap on a fat wedge that is surely worse than selling him for a nominal fee. The transfer fee we agreed has to be paid regardless.

I don’t envisage a world where we’re going to get half of what we spent back.

Fair enough. But I can't see the club selling him for say £10m, and taking something like a £15m loss in the accounts, when we look to be stretching ourselves to the limit to support Ancelotti by bringing in the likes of James.

He’s only any use as a 10 because anything else involving running and tackling he can’t do. As a 10 he’s not consistent enough so no use . 100k a week is 2 years of 5.2 million. Surely as bad as we think he is ( some of us anyway !!) we can get somebody to give us 20 million and use some of the money as a sweetener to get him to leave .. same story as Davies if we want to improve he goes .. surely can’t be that difficult to work out a deal that suits everyone

We signed Sigurdsson for £45m, and he’s on £5.2m wages per year. Say we sell him for £15m:
- wage bill reduces by £5.2m
- amortization cost reduces by £9m (£45m / 5 years)
- his book value is currently £18m (2 years left on a £45m, five year purchase), so it’s a net loss of £3m on the sale.

At the end of the financial year though, the entire transaction will be logged as a profit, with the £3m loss balanced by a reduction of £9m on amortization cost and £5.2m on wages, for a net profit of £11.2 million.

Never has a single signing ever had such a detrimental impact on the whole club. We’ve signed some wastes of space in the past, but how many of them have been indulged and basically played in every game, completely negating us as an attacking unit?
