Transfer Rumour Gylfi Sigurdsson

If Sigurdsson joins there will not be a single team happy to concede a free kick in their half. We would have some serious dead ball specialists.

Also he has scored winning goals away at the club's above that we constantly fail to win at. That is a valuable addition.

I think people way underestimate the importance of a free kick specialist.

Few things frustrate me more than wasted free kicks and poor free kicks, especially right around the box, because it basically gives lesser teams free pass to abuse your players. When you are outplaying a team, or on a break, lesser teams and players will take out your players. Refs in the league rarely give out yellows, so the only recourse you get to punish them for it is to take good free kicks. When you waste it, what incentive do they have to stop breaking up attacks by breaking legs around the box? None.

But the moment your free kicks became dangerous and deadly, they have to back off from challenges, and let players through they otherwise would foul, thus opening up more space for your skill players. If you are going to go to the effort to bring in really skilled players, you must go to the effort, in my opinion, to bring in a free kick specialist to protect them.

Gylfi would be a great signing, when Spurs spurted the Bale money it was on 'Bargains' from overseas like Lamela, Paulinho, Soldado and Eriksen and it's more of a lottery if you buy from outside the UK. It's not Fifa, players are human and it's far easier to integrate when they're over here.

Every time he's on the ball, be it open play crosses, corner kicks or free kicks, you just know something's about to happen.

You don't see that very often. One of the best if not the best in the league and broader.

He will upgrade us immediately.

Good post.

This.

Reading that Twitter feed he says that no-one has been sold. I don't think this is as far as we think. Maybe deal in principle?

Agreed.

Not sure some of you have really spent any time watching him play. He was BY A MILE the best player for Swans and everyone and their mother went after him the second he got the ball. He didn't hold the ball because he never had time or space to do so.

Siggy with time and space...just, look out. Seriously, he NEVER has time OR space. With us, he will. God forbid we get Giroud, too. Mix in Keane off set pieces, and god forbid we go and get another CB monster.

He'd certainly upgrade us immediately and I'd dare to say he'd be our best player. He and Ross would actually do very well together I really think.
