2017/18 Gylfi Sigurdsson

What he SHOULD have said, is that "they can't play together because I'm too stupid to get Morgan out of the lineup". I agree they shouldn't play often together, but against a toothless team like WBA, they would've worked fine if you have pace elsewhere. Yes, Gana was hurt, but if he plays Morgan when both are healthy we have a problem.

Top post, mate

In fact against the Baggies, Rooney was not that great.

Siggy is a good player and we all wanted him (maybe not for 45 mil) and it is not his fault we paid that much for him.

He certainly put the effort in on Saturday, but the whole team is out of balance, he has to try and cover for a roving joke of a left back and he never knows when he has to do it, so he's constantly on the back foot. On top of that our defensive midfielder thinks he's playing for the other team, by constantly passing in the direction that they are kicking. Hard to be creative when you are having to chase back and retrieve the ball.

so excuses over.

Play anyone else at LB, drop Schneiderlin and play Gueye - so put players in their right places and pick the best you can

Pickford, Seamus (Jonjoe) Holgate, Jags, Baines (Lee, Allaryce, Tea lady anyone but Martina, Garbutt) Gueye Davies Bolasie Siggurdson, Tosun, Walcott _ Rooney/DCL/Niasse as impact subs.

You won't get anything with 2 defensive midfielders, Rooney and Siggy all in the same staring 11.

If you KNEW you were buying Rooney, Sigurdsson isn't as important. I'd much rather have Sigurdsson than Rooney of course, and I do believe they could both play in the same side, but for that fee, there was better uses for the money.

Again, you put Gana in for Morgan, you get Davies in there (or buy someone better), let Keane and Holgate get a run of games together, get a real left back, this team will be much better and Siggy will produce. Just he has for EVERYONE including Spurs. This idea that he didn't produce there is just ridiculous.

yep deffo a good player, but deffo could have used the money elsewhere considering we had a few players in that position anyway

If he's surrounded by mediocrity and not standing out then what does that tell you?

He's as mediocre as the rest of them, no doubt about it.
He was at an awful Swansea team and stood out. He's the stand out player for Iceland. Both teams play(ed) to his strengths.

He's had to compete with a crowded final third in the early part of the season and now he is competing with a poor LB and a midfield that fails to provide any forward passes. I'd play him as our no.10 with pace either side and Tosun up top. If there's movement around him he'll create and score.

Did you miss the match on the weekend then?

His stats from set pieces stood out, everything else from open play didn't other than he works dead hard.

He played in the middle Saturday (supposedly his best position) and he was still gash. He's played 28 games in all comps for us, and I'm still waiting to see this supposed 'quality' player we bought.

My hope with Gylfi, like so many others in the squad, is that he will improve with a change of style/manager. So many player’s form has fell off a cliff this season, I’m hoping that this will only be temporary.
