Man this thread is full of weird.

Is he a good player? Without a doubt. Was he overpriced? Yep. Everyone is overpriced and Swansea were relegated for selling. Surely they knew what was on the cards when they priced him.

I mean is Rom worth 90 mil? Is Neymar worth 200+mil? Coutinho worth the 125 mil? Nope, but that is the way of the market.

It's like people are expecting a world class player for relative peanuts. It certainly won't happen with a Premier League known commodity. He's a good player, who suffered from the same ills that the entire team suffered from. Terrible tactics, far too many new faces, and more terrible tactics. Just when he was coming into form he got hurt.

I just don't get the weird obsession some of you have with trying to make him seem like a terrible player because he cost too much money.

It's Rom all over again. People lost their minds over his fee until it was time to sell.

On 4 July 2012, Gylfi Sigurdsson joined Tottenham for £8.8 million as the first signing by Andre Villa-Boas. In the summer of 2013, Spurs sold Gareth Bale and bought Paulinho, Eriksen, Soldado, Chadli, Capoue, Chiriches and Lamela. Sigurdsson now found himself one of an enormous squad of players.

I did see him play in a memorable game for Spurs at White Hart Lane on Wednesday 30 October 2013.
League Cup Spurs 2 G Sigurdsson 16' Kane 108' Hull 2 Friedel 53' og McShane 99' Spurs won 8-7 on penalties
Friedel Walker Kaboul Vertonghen Naughton (Chiriches 68') Dembélé Paulinho Lamela Eriksen (Chadli 68' Kane 78') G Sigurdsson Defoe
Substitutes Chiriches Holtby Capoue Chadli Lloris Kane Bentaleb

Sigurdsson had been on the substitutes' bench for the league game the previous weekend, also against Hull.
Sunday 27 October 2013 Spurs 1 Soldado 80' pen Hull 0
Lloris Walker Chiriches Dawson Vertonghen Holtby (Eriksen 60') Guimarães Cordeiro (Dembélé 45') Townsend Paulinho Lennon (Defoe 70') Soldado
Substitutes Lamela Naughton Defoe Dembélé G Sigurdsson Eriksen Friedel

Villas-Boas's players were a little slower to get into their stride, but after Younes Kaboul had planted a header wide, Sigurdsson's explosive strike repaid their fans. The Iceland international swivelled to leave Curtis Davies in a heap before sending a fierce shot beyond Eldin Jakupovic and in off the underside of the bar.
Kane got the goal he deserved in a spritely display, working himself clear of the attentions of McShane and drilling home a low shot.

Penalty Shootout begins; Sigurdsson takes the first penalty.
Goal! Tottenham Hotspur 2(1), Hull City 2. Gylfi Sigurdsson converts the penalty with a right footed shot to the bottom left corner.
Goal! Tottenham Hotspur 2(4), Hull City 2(3). Harry Kane converts the penalty with a right footed shot to the high centre of the goal.

So we saw 19 goals that night! Gylfi Sigurdsson scored two. Harry Kane came on as a substitute for a substitute, scored the equaliser in extra time and then scored a penalty too.

In other words Spurs wasted the Bale money, same as we wasted all that money last season and Sigurdsson occasionally contributed lol

well I don't think that's a totally valid reason like it was in the first bit of last season

he's got the minutes over his legs over the season and the sharpness is there

think it was more a case of having to do a lot of running in that first half in that deeper role. Iceland had none of the ball but as opposed to the compact 4-4-1-1 they played in v Argentina, with Gylfi in the hole, they played a 4-4-2 which meant all of the players were a bit more stretched.

He had a poor game. Created some good chances but overall didn't do enough.
He’s deffo not at 100% due to injury to me thinks

Rom is class though. We got robbed, 90m was nothing for a striker of his caliber given the rising fees for players at the time

Agreed. If only we’d sold him after the Neymar deal changed everything. Not anyone’s fault like just unlucky.

Although given last summer we’d just have had more money to spend on cack.
He's not Neymar.

Was there another striker that got sold for more? MBappe got 128M. Morata was 58M. Aubmeyang was 56M. Lacazette was under 50M. I'd say we did REALLY well.
