Rooney's been our best player so everyone has to work around him.

Until a player actually influences a game, then we can talk about playing in a "natural position"

And dont forget, Siggurdson know's how to play attacking wide. He just doesn't impress on a game.

Well he doesn't actually. When we shoehorned him out wide he spent most of the time drifting in. He had the licence to do that, but a wide operator he is not. He was there for his set pieces.

Rooney needs a rest. Play Sigurdsson in the middle and watch us purr.

When you play 3 at the back the wing backs are supposed to provide the width! He wasn't supposed to be wide left.

Yep. He had freedom to be compact and move inside centrally.

He couldn't get involved and didn't have any impact.

Where as you look over at Rooney who is head and shoulders above him, finding pockets of space everywhere.

Not getting involved enough at all. Still finding his feet but I feel for him a little bit. No real striker to aim at, being played out on the wing and having to fit in with a bunch of other players trying to figure it out up front.

Aim at?

The lad goes backwards before he even thinks about turning and getting his head up. Maybe he's lacking confidence amongst the rest of the mess

Stupidity from the board was signing a Has-been, and not replacing the Striker we knew was leaving last March....

Sigurdsson was a good signing, Rooney was not...

All about opinions, but Rooney has been our best player this season, until he tired he was our best player today, he looks like the only one with the technical ability to actually play footy, he is on a different wavelength to all those around him.

He knows how to play there. And our wingbacks allow him to play more centrally and tuck inside.

At Swansea last season they lined up 4.3.3 -
Routledge Siggurdson
Lorrente
The previous seasons they had a 4.4.1.1 with mainly a 5 man midifeld where he played as a number 10.

We don't play like that under Koeman and he's brought Siggurdson in to play in that front 3.

He "has" played there - he doesn't know how to play there.

In a front 3 in a 4-3-3 you want the wider players to have a bit more about them than just slowing the game down and coming inside. His main benefit last season was his discipline as he would track back and help our full back but his creation was zero. He will never go past a player, he just doesn't have the zip, pace or guile. You can work Siggy out, you can watch the cogs whirring around and then Bang - he's gone and done exactly what you thought he was going to do.

You'll see him with the ball and in time you'll notice the fact that he just doesn't have it to go around a man. You need that I'm sure you'll agree if you want to start turning defences. Rooney has this, Barkley too. Siggy, never. He was as much a part of our problems last season as he was the solution (set piece assist king)

He has got a decent shot though, if he's got the time to lay it up.

Terrible. He is really bad so far. I hope it's all due to no preseason. This could be the ultimate waste of money. At least Swansea will get zero add on's.

He's fit, make no bones about that. He is always fit. Regardless of this nonsense about pre season, what you're seeing is it, it's what he's got, it won't be any different in 10 or 20 games, the boy doesn't touch alcohol and takes his career uber seriously.
