Happy Paddy’s day

I remember seeing some lads on the metro in Newcastle, giving some random lad a load of abuse for wearing a Guiness hat on st Patrick’s day a few years ago. Saying things like ‘you should be celebrating George’s day’etc. Should have seen the look of confusion on their faces when the lad told the he was a marine.
They were trapped between patriotic pride and supporting the troops. Reckon their brains were never the same again.
The marine was smart enough to get off the metro before his stop otherwise he was going to smash their faces in. Which would have been great to be honest.

It is what St Patrick himself would have wanted.

St Paddy's day reminds of when I was young with a lush brightly colored pate walking through the wharf/market area of Boston with family on a gentle summer day and an older man aggressively approached and asked where I'm from.

"From Louisiana?" I cautiously responded

"What are ye? Where'ya from?"

I was more than a little uncomfortable and not familiar with sectarian issues, or whatever information he was after. Anyway, don't be a botherer and enjoy St Patrick's Day, whatever it is, although I suspect it has less to do with green beer than I'm lead to believe.

At least St Patrick actually existed.
