Happy Paddy’s day

Saw an interesting viral thread on Reddit today from an Irishman telling Americans to stop pretending they are Irish because of some distant blood relatives. He got slaughtered, but it was from a subreddit most likely populated with lots of Americans.

What do our Irish buddies on GOT think of Americans and paddy’s day ? Bandwagon jumping wronguns or good lads who just appreciate Irish culture ?

Isn't this @Neiler's petpeeve?

Lived for awhile in the States.

Loads are desperate to identify their roots.

Irish, Scots, Italian, German, and definately English are the top 'family heritage' shoutouts.

Over 90% of this city has Irish ancestry in some part, however large or small.

I’ve never felt the need to go mental on the 17th March though.
Groucho, I never go mental on this day. I respect what Patrick did to this country. I will have a few beers and hope for the best at GP

If people want to celebrate leave them, and if they don't then that's fair enough as well. Each to your own like!

Having lived here more than 10 years I can say you get used to it and I simply laugh and then pander to their talk of being Irish.

It's slightly irritating at first but you get used to it. Especially when they insist its Patty and not Paddy.

Sometimes I feel like Bord Failte should pay me. Every person I come across when they find out I'm Irish they talk about going, they tell me what percentage they are and so I sell them on them visiting haha!
