Maltese Tony

Player Valuation: £500k
Some times last season i looked at moyes teams ,and asked no way , he seemed to send a yak who almost helped svens foxes into the premier leauge ,and then played big vic , its like artea he looked very poor last season , and how tony hibbert gets a game sometimes i wonder if he just looks world class in training , i would love to see moyes play beckford and yak upfront with a rodwell fell osman cahill midfield .

Of course he has. Or at least I like to think that's why he persists with the abomination of a footballer that is Tony Hibbert.

Hibbert is a good player.

He does have faves. Great manager but sometimes he needs to pick the team on form rather than perceived ability.

Of course he has, like all managers to be fair, its the fact that MOyes favourites seem to lack technique that annoys me.

Hibbert, Neville and Jags in this team. I remember Stubbs getting picked ahaed of Lescott for no good reason against Blackburn, probably enough to convince Fernandes to get off to Valencia the next day!

Look how long it took for Baines to get a run

Without doubt he has his favourites, possibly the guys who take direction the best. Neville for instance - not the most talented of player but he is a true leader and Moyes obviously loves having someone who can keep the chosen tactics in place. What I think we lack is someone (who is match fit) who can and will stick 2 fingers up at the tactics from time to time and change the game, the element of suprise - this is what Arteta did game in game out until last season.

I very much get the feeling that the players have to work at making their faces fit with regards to team selection.

Every manager has their favourites. I remember when we were going though a bad patch (who knows which one?) and moyes saying he will remember which ones let him down. He's the top man and if you step out of line he will never forget. He loves neville, osman, hibbert, cahill to name just 4 because they are professional and never give less than 100 percent and never fake injuries. He likes players he can rely on.

Spot on, the form he shows now wasn't there to begining with but you got the feeling from selections that he wasn't in Moyes' plan until his few appearances possibly forced his name on the team sheet

To be fair every manager in the world has his favourites.

so does this mean ferguson at man u picks 3 or 4 badly lacking players every week. i dont think so. its why moyles wont win anything with us, its a weird situation for sure

1) it took Baines a long time to settle in, and Lescott at the time was probably playing better than any left back in the country.
2) I have not always been a fan of Hibbert, but you need players like him who put themselves on the line week in, week out. I don't think there is a braver RB in the country. As for Neville, when he doesn't play, the team falls apart. We need his leadership
3) Jagielka would be my first name on the team sheet.
4) Yak was gash even before he did his achillies. He had a great first season, but didn't perform at all at the start of his second season, got injured and has not been fit since. Scoring a few goals in the Championship does not change that. Moyes must see something in Vic on the training ground and is intent on giving him his chance, especially after the injuries. But Moyes has shown with Vaughan that there are only so many chances. I expect this to be Vic's last chance
5) Arteta is the type of player who has to play himself back into form. Once Pienaar left, he had to play

6) Get over it

6) Get over it

1. Lescott was to played left back to accommodate a Moyes favourite in Alan Stubbs
2. You dont need players like Hibbert, you need players who arent scared of the reponsibilty of having the ball, there are more than one type of bravery in football
3. Jags has good defensive instincts, I love his charachter, but his technique is poor, I fully understand the argument for having him in the team though, and do rate him.
4. I dont think Moyes showed Vaughan a great deal of faith, Yak was dropped when he was performing and Louis was struggling.
5. I do actualy believe Arteta will return this season like he did the season previous to the last one, he's too good a player to slump for that long.
6. Why should people get over it, are we not aloud opinions, not aloud to ask questions? should everyone just sycophantically accept everything Moyes does?

Moyes has his top favourites, in Neville, Hibbert and Osman

Then they are followed by Cahill and Jagielka

The reason why Baines initially broke into the starting 11 was due to an injury to Lescott. Lescott also had to wait for Stubbs to get injured before breaking into the side. Seems like Moyes doesn't like to break the mould too often or can't see the reasons to do so unless his hand is forced.
