I should write a book...

If you're only burning 150 calories on your run, you're not running hard enough :) Not uncommon to get through 1,000+ on a typical bike ride.

Sorry I'm not running. It's walking. Running bores the **** out of me.

I walk listening to podcasts around my village, takes around 30 - 40 minutes.

I'm a member of the JJB gym so need to push that more this week, and perhaps some swimming.

Swimming would be equally boring I should think. Used to compete but the thought of going to a public session now bores me to tears. Cycling's great though as you always get fresh terrain, weather, traffic etc. to contend with.

Could try this site out Fitness Jumpsite: Calorie Calculator

It shows you the calories consumed for a set period in different sports.

Best advice I got before going off on some serious mountain stuff was walking at a decent speed on an inclined treadmill (45 minutes-ish on a 15° slope most days).

I do some running but it buggers my knees (which have taken more than their fair share of battery over the years) if I do too much. If you don't want to do the walking in a gym, drive and find a decent hill to walk up (I know it's pretty flat where you are).

You need to keep your body from getting into a comfort zone, so adding in cycling or swimming is good. Currently I'm getting in shape for the summer again and I've been doing some running but mostly walking up and down steep-ish inclines. Mountain bike is coming out this weekend.

(Forty minutes toodling round the village is not going to take off even that red wine...)

Cheers. I like swimming because it doesn't tire me as much as running. I suffer from stitches real bad and I get really bad chest.

I know I know, but I am not going to turn into a monk.

At my gym there is this machine where I can burn almost 500 calories in 45 minutes. That's got to be a bottle of red wine right there.
