Posted via Mobile Device Only one surefire way to lose weight ~ eat less, move more! Simples

With any exercise you kinda get out what you put in, so a bit of breathlessness will always be required if you want to get anything out of it. I believe something like 20mins of strenuous exertion per day is a good start. Then you'll want to consider your aims, whether it's to lose weight, improve cardio fitness, get more toned etc.

I know I know, but I am not going to turn into a monk.

At my gym there is this machine where I can burn almost 500 calories in 45 minutes. That's got to be a bottle of red wine right there.

I'd seriously consider kicking the red wine into touch as it contains copious amounts of calories, white wine is the lesser evil of the two.I love both but i've moved onto vodka as it has the least calorific value of almost all booze.

As for your walking, i'd say stick with it, i walk at least 2 miles a day, sometimes 4, cut out carbs like bread, potato, pasta and cheese.Eat 3 times a day,but not after 6pm. Don't deprive yourself of anything, i have one saturday or sunday per month when i can eat and drink anything i want. This works for me,i've lost 3 stone since christmas, getting rid of my car also helped.

Good luck to you Ghost, hope you find the inspiration to succeed.

All sound advice.

May leave my Wine/Beer till the weekend.

Walk more
Go to the Gym at least twice a week
Can't cut out carbs completely, I can have a pasta meal for less than 3 quid a day, so finances come into it quite a bit.
And I will try not to eat after 6, but may have to push that to 7.

Thing is yesterday I only consumed 1500 calories, and that was having pasta, sandwich, tiramasu, couple of beers. Not sure how the estimate of 2500 calories a day is set, I mean how do they know how much calories I burn a day? I sit on my arse most days working on this thing.

You really shouldn't be mixing your carbs in the same day if you want to lose weight, have one or the other but to combine the two is not a healthy combination.Try boiled rice instead of pasta, brown preferably, it costs about the same but has less carbs.Cutting down on fat content is the real key to success,i never eat anything that contains more than 6g of fat. You have to be tough on yourself but a lot of the success that can be achieved is down to forward planning and preparing your own food rather than buying pre prepared, not to mention cheaper !

I smoke alot of 'stuff' and drink quite heavily. I love English breakfasts and manage 2 a week - fatty foods and take aways are my dearest friends.
I also go the gym 5 mornings a week and run a mile, row a mile, then cycle 2 miles before doing some weight's.
I will either be the fittest pensioner at the post office or dead before i'm 50 !!

Preparing food is the best I know. But how can it be cheaper. Give me an example.

An example could be the pasta that you buy for around £3 per serving, buy the ingredients seperately, bag of penne,a tube of tomato puree, tin of tuna, tin of sweetcorn all for around £2 and you'd get a few servings out of that, plus you're not eating the sauces that are usually full of sugar and fat that comes with convenience food, your own prepared pasta would taste nicer, stretch further and over the course of a week you'd be quids in.

Cut out bread, pasta and potatoes? I'd never eat!

I'm always trying to lose weight. I go for it for a little while then just think bollocks to it and have a big pig out.

I try to eat healthy as much as i can but its kinda hard when you also try to save money and you're a fussy eater, your choices really are limited (or i find they are anyway).

Starting to be more active though. Bike to work, only a mile there and a mile back but i guess it helps, plus i try to play tennis and 5-a-side once a week if i can. Killed me to start with, couldn't walk properly for a week but slowly getting better.

Just need to lose my big fat gut really.

Good call.

I should cook from fresh more often, it's having time really.

If you're into cooking and retro gadgets (you certainly are for the second!) then an Italian pasta machine like this baby is fun.

Yeah that is cool. I'm getting a new kitchen this year, and I fancy some of that retro stuff. Going to even get a 50's radio.
