So is he going to get his work permit now or not because he hasn't featured in any games that have made his % of games played lower ?

Assuming Nigeria get into the world’s top 40 he needs to have played in at least 60% of the games he’s been available for during the last 2 years.

He hasn’t even played in 50%.

Could get one as a ‘special talent’ type thing but a) I don’t see why he’d get one now if he couldn’t previously that way and b) I don’t have a clue how that works.

That is not the case, once Nigeria made the semi-finals of AFCON it is meaningless if he plays 100% or 0% of games for them. He now meets the 5 points needed in section B of the FAs criteria, so the only way he wouldnt get the work permit is if the commitee just decide to ignore the points and say he isnt worhty(which they have reserved the right to do).

Is there anywhere I can read up on how it all works? The criteria etc.

Seems strange that he can get the permit without playing regularly for his country.

This has it spelled out pretty completely. He's going to fail the national team minutes test so it'll go to that point system. It is hard to say exactly where he falls with that but the rumor is that he needs one more point Nigeria reaching the semi-finals with him in the squad regardless of minutes is that last point. Whether that is true or not we should know by the end of the window.
