A daft signing and it looks worse every year. Clearly either Walsh didn't do his homework to be sure the player would get a work permit, or just didn't understand the system.

I suspect he thought it would only take a year on loan for him to qualify, as it is he got injured before the world cup and since then hes struggled to break into the Nigerian team ahead of 93 year Jon Obi Mikel.

Theres no conspiracy theory here, hes just an untalented bum.

Considering he was a coach put into an unfamiliar role I’d say the latter was more likely

Not really daft tbf..

He's probably going to get sold, and sold at probably £10m to £15m profit.

You work in finances don't you mate? While playing wise it's unfortunate we haven't got to see him, at the moment he's more than doubled in value without kicking a ball for us and wages wise we haven't paid anything because it has been covered by the loan fees, which in fact we've probably made money on the Gala loan fee from last season as it was circa £4m IIRC.

So yeh, as a signing and a player for us it's a shame, though he got a bad injury at a time when he just broke into the Nigeria team which would have made a permit easier. There's also just a case of Silva and Brands seemingly not fancying him for whatever reason, or at least not fancying enough to push hard for a permit when we can make a quick £ on him instead.

It's actually a smart way to do business. Not that Walsh will have been looking that far ahead, but we've benefitted from this without actually having to do anything.

The only shame is we likely won't get to see him a blue shirt.

Who we'll likely make £10-15m on.

Financially we should do ok from it yeah. That's the positive of the deal. But I wanted to see the kid play and surely he was bought to help us on the pitch, so I think it's been a poor and slightly bizarre signing.

I'm not sure about 10 or 15 million profit though to be honest. One, galatasary will not offer huge money. In fact they'll no doubt want a loan. Secondly, clubs now know we need to sell so have the bargaining power.

I doubt it mate, probably get around 15m for him, I mean I suppose if you added his loan fees it might be about that, but then youve gotta factor in wages.

I mean we wont lose money, im pretty sure.

Wages have already been covered by the two loan fees i believe mate (definitely his wages for last season were covered (at the least) by the Gala loan fee).

We'll double our money, at least, and I'd say we'd get a bit more on top tbh.

Hasn’t he just got a permit for villa though?

Not yet.

But.

Pep Guardiola, aided by Brazil head coach Tite, couldn’t convince the Exceptions Panel that Douglas was valuable enough to Man City to be granted a work permit, hence why he spent last season on loan at Spanish club Girona.

Villa’s case is far different City's, though. At £15million Douglas becomes the club’s fourth most costly player ever after fellow Brazilian Wesley Moraes, Tyrone Mings and Bent.

He will undoubtedly play regularly under Dean Smith, something which Guardiola was unable to guarantee due to the array of midfield stars already at The Etihad.

Villa are still awaiting approval on Douglas’ work permit, but it’s clear they have a very strong case.

The loan with an obligation to buy for say, £15m (so a £8m profit on our fee) would probably add up to a £10-12m profit when factoring in their previous loan fee too.

I agree entirely it's a shame we haven't got to see him. It's also bad luck in terms of the injury and having a Nigeria manager who is honestly dreadful.

He's not a bad player. Not a world class talent but he offers more than some of the tosh that played at AFCON - but Roht is like Moyes x100 in terms of negativity. In fact, most of the managers of African teams are like that. All the old washed up French/German blokes who all play a rigid 4-3-3 and nothing else.

I’ll believe that when I see it

Well we paid £7.6m for him.

His first loan fee when he was sent to Anderlecht probably just covered his wages. Let's conservatively say we broke even on it that year.

His second loan fee to Gala - I'm sure it was reported they'd paid a fair whack. Maybe not quite £4m, but definitely in that £3-4m region.

Let's say he's on £25-30k (not exactly outrageously high or low) - that works out around £1.3-£1.4m per season. So we've probably made at least £1.5m on that loan fee to Gala.

If they then pay another loan fee of the same amount, with an obligation to buy next season, that purchase option would probably be set at around £14-15m if you take into account what we have got for Vlasic and, to an extent, Lookman.

Add in approx. £3m loan fee to let's say a £14m deal (so we've nearly doubled our money on the transfer fee paid which again is what you'd expect) and you're looking at £10m profit. If we get a higher fee (either as the loan fee or the purchase option in this scenario) you're edging towards £12m, £13m etc)

I’ll be very happy if that’s true. If we can sell him for £15m+ then that’ll be a decent deal.

People just get carried away with reports they read (not aimed at you). It wasn’t long ago people were believing Bayern were ready to drop £30m for him.

In essence we’ve got a player who can’t play for us and he’s not trusted / good enough to play regularly for Nigeria.

He does have a decent scoring record so hopefully we’ll be able to get that £15m+.
