I imagine tje avaerage American couldn't distinguish between Yorkshire and Lancashire accent and tbh a lot of the time I can't. In the same way most English wouldn't notice the difference between Georgia, Alabama, Tenessee, mississippi etc. I know I can't but only hear what is generally known as a Southern accent.
