History

War is often described as bringing out the worst in people, but equally it can be argued that some of the best flourish through the times of adversity.

Eighty year ago last week (the 19th), an RAF pilot died in a Dutch field - it was unknown at the time to be one of the most gallant officers we'll ever see.

Hero of the Dam Busters, a Wing Commander with two Distinguished Service Orders, two Distinguished Flying Crosses, and the holder of the Victoria Cross.

Guy Gibson - just turned twenty-six - but during that terrible time became a legend. For my dad, he was the hero of the RAF. One for you @Mutzo Nutzo.

Sweden, a country with a population of less than 10 million people, takes on the, so is claimed, mighty English team in Euro 92. After just 4 minutes the English are ahead and the victory is assumed. However, in the second half Jan Eriksson heads in an equaliser, before Tomas Brolin comes up with this stunner 8 minutes before the end of time. England are eliminated. Sweden lose to Germany in the semi-Finals, but the lovely Denmark go on to lift the trophy.

My lovely mum ensured that I support the country of her birth, and I still do today.

Vi älskar dig Sverige. Den gula och blå

Revisionism is being extremely kind to a country allied with the Nazis at the commencement of the war. The world's a basket case.
