Holgate Racially Abused By Firmino - The Guardian

He was. Do your research. You fell at the first fence.

The FA decision saw Suarez's given further punishment on top of the insulting language charge for 'aggravated' reasons: i.e. they also constituted racial abuse.

You're very welcome.

No Dave we know the script now you get pulled on something and you go off on a tangent. Answer the question why wasn't Evra done for using a far worse phrase than puta ?

If you want to bring up the Suarez-Evra case Dave then please realise that it completely destroys your witch hunt. Evra admitted using a disgusting Spanish Phrase that makes 'Puta' sound like a term of endearment. So could you please explain why Evra wasn't charged with using abusive and/or insulting words.

The answer is that we accept that Football is a sport in which players of all sides say nasty and unpleasant things to each other. What we don't accept is racism. All you are doing here is muddying the waters. If you want to go down the road of not accepting players and fans not insulting each other then you will have no players and no fans inside Stadiums.

I have tried to stay out of this thread because I can't be bothered with the constant accusations of being a kopite for daring to stand up to your idiocy. The thing is Dave that your levels of hypocrisy are off the scale. You complain about a common place phrase like 'son of a bitch' whilst branding someone of mixed race a Neo Nazi. Just think about how idiotic that is before your next urge to post moronic hate filled one and two liners.

I am a child of the 80's and would love to return to the situation of banter mixed with mutual respect. As a fan I have witnessed our fall from grace and it has hurt like hell but the sooner we start ignoring them and concentrating on getting our Club right the better.
There's to much water under the bridge mate for any mutual respect with that lot,i have family and friends who support them and when it comes to arguments with them they are on a different wavelength either accusing us of jealousy being bitter or saying murderers is about Hillsborough. The days of the 80s are well and truly gone and our fall from grace as you put it does hurt but when they still haven't apologised over Heysel and have banners in the kop mocking it you'll never get any mutual respect from me and i personally despise them.

Tanks, Africa corps, a little before your time. I suppose you haven't engaged, have you?

Great reference mate, thought of the same scene! Great film.

Regarding our young man, I’m very concerned that this has affected him deeply. I dislike his disappearance from the pitch as I don’t think it sends the right message to him or a wider audience. It feels like the club is making a tacit admission of wrongdoing on his part. He is the aggrieved party here!

I fear lasting damage has already occurred no matter the outcome now.

Allardyce has handled this all wrong.

I dont think anybody has handled it well so far, outside of Everton fans, when does it crop up? Even the so called local paper hasnt shown any interest in it,it was mentioned in passing just after the game, since then every reference to that match is either Holgate should be on trial for attempted murder or he misheard/lied

Allardyce failed to come out publicly in the same way Hughton did after his player was abused by Rodriguez and Allardyce has dropped him from the team.

he's been abysmal.

Everybody at the club has though, syraight after it that scruff from the daily fail basically done a character assassination on Holgate and nothing was said in his defence,

It seems likely. I guess there are footballing reasons to have sat him out, his form had dipped and to be honest he sort of had a mare during that match. However, it just feels like Mason has been taken outside and dropped in a hole somewhere in punishment for daring to speak up.

The public perception for non partisans cannot help but to notice that Firmino's arc has blown up recently while Mason has completely disappeared from view. I don't like that we, as a club, have perhaps even unwittingly played into that false narrative. The optics stink!

On a macro societal level, what has played out here feels like a text-book scenario of what happens regarding the reporting of any kind of abuse. The victim speaks out, at some peril to themselves, and the accuser's character is attacked viciously from all sides by the accused's defenders.
