Holgate Racially Abused By Firmino - The Guardian

They could have done this 4 weeks ago.

Great response by the rs. They bossed it. They've been hard done by, and the suffering of Firmino has been terrible. But no hard feeling, they'll even have a game dedicated to kick it out.

As for Everton. Very, very weak indeed. Accept the decision. Say that we're disappointed that the FA could not prove conclusively that Holgate has been the victim of racist abuse. He has had to endure people racially abuse him, people call him a liar and a campaign to blacken his name by raking up what he posted on social media as a minor.

Roll over Everton. More backbone in a jellyfish.

Firmino:

"As someone who has experienced racist abuse during my life, I know how damaging and hurtful it can be. I would like to place on record, for the avoidance of any doubt, I did not say the word, or a variation of the word, that was claimed and subsequently reported in the media. I did not use any language that referenced race."

He doth protest too much.

The suspicion of racism will always be there for Firmino.

I'd like this comment pinned.

I witnessed first hand the abuse black players got every single time I set foot in Goodison until the club cleaned up its act in the last ten years. Carlton Palmer, Les Ferdinand, I can still see their faces at they looked towards the section I sat in. Us complaining about others is akin to war era Germans calling out anti semitism.

Everton move to lose 'racist' tag

The only thing on a par with racism at Goodison was the anti catholic stuff I put up with at Windsor park, Belfast.
Like every other club in the world at the time. Why are we singled out?

Thankfully the world has moved on.

Dropped Holgate from the first team FFS!

You couldn't make these spineless gets up.

Kind of backs up the theory that they believed Mason but had no proof don't you think?

It backs up nothing. You expect the FA to come out and categorically state Holgate was a liar? There’s no evidence they believe him. Instead their statement reads that they took the allegation seriously but couldn’t find any objective evidence to take the matter further. If anything they’re covering our backsides by stating that there was no malicious intent in the allegation.

Also are people completely forgetting that the RS had a player banned this century for racially abusing another player? And that the FA banned John Terry who at that time was England captain? The same FA who really need to be seen taking this stuff seriously after the Aluko story and all the stuff with Mark Sampson. If there was enough to go on they’d have charged him.

The FA have done nothing wrong. We need to look at ourselves. The biggest mistake the club made was not having Holgate make a definitive public statement. That’s what Evra did and that’s what the Brighton player did about Rodriguez. Those statements forced the FA into action. The impression you get from us is that we really wished this would all go away and hadn’t really started.

The ridiculous and blatant push of the player into the advertising hoardings, it was bordering on insanity and could have been seen as a straight red for violent conduct.

Violent conduct Haha

What are you? A nappy wearing, mummy’s boy?

What insulting people whilst playing football? yeah it is pretty standard, unless you are a nappy wearing, mummy's boy leftie, in which case I am sure you will be mortified by such outrageous behaviour :coffee:

Those war era Germans you talk about ,would those be like the white rose movement, were 3 of them were beheaded for opposition to the consentration camps, or any of the other seventy thousand plus that were put to death during the war for oppsition to the nazi goverment, shocking post , needs binning not pinning

I don't suppose many expected the outcome to be any different. I have a feeling that the football authorities do not want to punish to many players for this type of abuse because if they did they might have to admit there is an issue which they would then have to deal with. Much better to ignore it and kick the can down the road.
