Holgate Racially Abused By Firmino - The Guardian

The timing of Holgate’s rage is key to this. At the time I thought it was in relation to what was probably the Portuguese equivalent of hijo de puta, he definitely says puta that much is clear, but watching it again that isn’t what sets Mason off. Really struggle to understand Hispanic folk being racist towards black people, Firmino is closer in skin tone to Holgate than he is to say, McCarthy, and he wouldn’t racially abuse him (assuming he did say something).
I remember doing a scuba diving trip in the Dominican Republic and the instructor who was the colour of John Barnes used the word to describe his gopher who was Haitian and very black. It's all relative.

Down to how different ethnic groups are perceived in South American mate, although are friends on RAWK seemed to think it was a SA term of endearment when Suarez said it to Evra.

As i said before - Suarez insulted Evra, same Suarez whose grandfather i believe is distinctly a coloured guy.
Blue we are all coloured. The correct term is 'a black guy'.

Well SA backheeled that last night when leadership was required. If I was a player I'd think less of him this morning. The club at officer level al;so need to step up, either CEO or DoF.

What else could he have done at the post match presser without getting into trouble himself.

Obviously a full FA enquiry will be conducted due to the Ref's match report, then let's see if he makes any supportive comments. Lets leave SA out this, I appreciate your not a fan of his and neither am I.

Sam didn't react without a bit of thought. Leadership requires you to use your head, not just jump in with both feet. There are proper channels...
Players actually play for Sam. Do you think they would do that if they didn't feel supported?

Ha, I think Sam was bang on there. If there's a case to answer let it be investigated. It's not Jeremy Kyle, screeching allegations furiously is ridiculous in any context.

Firmino actually said: "I will not buy this record, it is scratched." Obviously a witch-hunt against Perpetual Victim FC.

In all fairness, I dont think he could comment fully, as he didn’t know the full facts. As he said others will decide the course of action.
Agreed. Sticking up for your player regardless is what the RS do. It's wrong. We witnessed the same thing with the scum that were involved with Rhys Jones's death.
Sam is basically saying that we have to wait and see.

The lad knows what was said. He was called the N word and the ref knows that he's in a position to book or send off a player who might be able to prove that accusation so asks the 4th official how to get out of the situation, he then books no one on his instruction in order to weasel out of it all.

EFC should push this all the way, but Allardyce didn't last night and I doubt they will.

That Jon Moss thing was bizarre. I thought at first it was to tell him Holgates play was dangerous. Or maybe the managers have done something.

Moss has either told him there's been a racist term heard on the mic. Or the ref has heard it and gone to qualify it.

To be fair Holgate should be booked. That's the give away for this for me. It smacks me of a white bloke not wanting to book/send off a mixed race lad when he's just been racially abused.

I think they will get away with this. Compare Fergusans principled behaviour who wouldn't take no for an answer. A man of his reputation at the biggest club had to harangue the FA to do something.

We are leaving Holgate out to dry, as we did with Niasse under different circumstances. We should be stating Firmino is not welcome to enter Goodison Park under our anti-racism charter. Up
the ante.

Innocent until proven guilty tbh.

Although it would probably be a good idea for some sort of statement regarding the incident.

There's more people in anfield with their phones recording everything than there are genuine fans. One of the sados who does that in the front row will have caught something.
