Holidays 2019

Last years thread was closed down, so here we go...

I need a small bit of advice as we're looking to book a holiday. Has anyone ever done a fly and camp holiday in the french alps with a child younger than 1?
We are hoping to go at the end of June early July for about 13 nights.
a few questions
1 - did it end up being expensive as you couldn't bring all the 'stuff'?
2 - was the holiday suitable for the toddler?
3 - if doing it again would you do anything different?

thanks in advance
looking forward to hearing where other Blues are heading.

been to a few but not french alps (spain, italy, france) are you tied to those weeks cos basically outside of school hols is well cheap e.g. Bella Italia at Lake Garda is £1300 ish per week in hols (booked solid every year way in advance) plus flights, we used to go for 3 weeks straddling the may half term and it was about £500 & £550 for flights. we've driven the last few years & you can take a lot of stuff compared to flying. The campsites are there FOR the kids so if you cant keep them entertained on 1 of them then you have no chance anywhere.

Just booked Montenegro for May, will do Croatia in July or September, and looking for a long-haul getaway for our anniversary....thinking Australasia, Cambodia/Vietnam or Thailand/Singapore

You just doing Tokyo? Get a bullet train to Kyoto if you have the time.
I was hoping to do just that mate. I want the full experience, or as close as you can get to that in three weeks anyway.

A couple of the friends I'm traveling with are more clued into the details of how to get about ect as they've been before. Can't wait TBH, I've not looked forward to a holiday like this since I was a kid.

You'll have a great time. Best place I've been too and I really wanna go back.

Not at all trying to criticise, because I presume you've done this before and therefore have solutions to the issues I'm about to mention... If I had a very young child like you're talking about it wouldn't even cross my mind to take it on a plane or take it camping - both strike me as rather baby-unfriendly activities.

If Mrs. Tree and I go anywhere for more than a long weekend this year, it will be South Africa again.
Ok. Where else could we go with a one year old?
We'll be hiring a car
The campsites have chalets for hire
We'd prefer to get out into the outdoors and we've done plenty of hiking and camping in the past.

We're looking at flying as otherwise it'll be too long for the child in a car seat.

As a semi-experienced cruiser, I would definitely recommend going on one, especially if it's a good line and route, and the sea-sickness shouldn't be an issue.

The size of many of the newer, large-named ships is unreal (90K-150KGT) and the stabilisers make it a smooth journey unless you're on a rough transatlantic.

God, at points you wouldn't even know you were at sea unless you looked out of a window. Plus, there's so much to do on-board you are never bored.
Just stay away from the costs cordia!

What on earth was he thinking!
