Look at the latest Rugby world cup, all those fans jumping on the bandwagon because they thought they'd a sniff at winning something after being hyped up. Most of the people in the crowd weren't even born in Ireland is my bet.
I'm not as big a supporter of Ireland in rugby as i am in football.

That team was blown up to the last, but i felt deep down that they'd bottle yet another quarter final.

That's all well and good but you won't see most these people when there's a losing streak.
I disagree. You don’t have to be born in a place to live and support it through thick and thin.

From an international perspective, all nations have fans who get involved when a country is in a big match that wouldn’t normally. No country is different in that respect.

There's a big difference between a support and a band wagon jumper, it's like Paddy's Day when everyone seems to think they're Irish around the world. I never said you had to be born in a place to support it, I said if you're gonna support it let them be your only team through wins and losses. To use your example you don't support Everton only when they win and then support Liverpool.

They’re all underachievers to be fair. England the biggest ones but Scotland, Ireland and Wales are too to varying extents. England’s World Cup record is poor and about on a par with Croatia who have only been in existence since 1994 and have a tiny population.

Scotland’s inability to get out of the group stage of a tournament is pitiful. Ireland had a brief flare up in the 90s but have been garbage since then. Wales have just come off a brief flare up and probably on their way back to the wilderness now. They all have smaller populations so can be excused more than England, but still should’ve achieved more throughout their histories
Scotland had a very good team in 78 and they certainly underachieved.
However given the resources England have had at their disposal over the years, the ultimate underachiever tag goes to England.
The reason may be that our leagues are more physically demanding or maybe there's just better international teams out there.
Who knows.

The media. The gutter filth red top media. Any kid or young talent that crops up now is destroyed before he's 20. The sheer volume of abuse via social-media is enough to have some want to score ten OG's a game to get their own back. A country so divided along tribal lines of pure hatred doesn't deserve nice things.
