Success for them relative to Scotland would be getting out of their group, which they often do when they qualify for the World Cup. For example in 1966, 1970, 1974, 1986, 1990, 2010, 2014 and 2018

Actually surprised by that mate - never knew Scotland never got out their group TBF, prob would have lost money on that - could have sworn the England game in Euro 96 was later round game but prob wrong.

Fair play, but Uruguay and Croatia are still outliers to the mean - frequency dictates there will always be one or two - even we got to the Quarter Final and beat eventual finalists Italy in WC.

If England/Holland ended 4 0, Scotland would have got out the group. Late goal for Holland scuppered that.

Pardon? How many English players are winning the PL and CL/EL exactly? Just because an English club is successful shouldn't mean a national team should. City, best team in the world, have 6 English players in their squad. Arsenal, 2nd best in the league, used 2 last year.

London did win a senior hurling all Ireland in 1901 when they beat Cork in the final! We beat Wexford in the home final and the winners of that played London in the actual final.

They did a similar thing in 1989. We beat Dublin in the home league final, and then we had to go out to New York to play New York over two legs to win the trophy.

Football in Ireland has serious competition from GAA and rugby, but that still doesn't excuse what an incompetent/corrupt organisation the FAI actually are imo.

I can't believe that Stephen Kenny is still in the job. He's been a bigger disaster than Steve Staunton!

It's a poor team, but a better manager would get more out of our pretty meagre playing resources.

It would be better for the FAI and IFA to merge into the one organisation, but that's probably a non runner until we have that united Ireland.

By ones that were successful in the past do you mean Man Utd ‘68, Forest back to back European Cup winners, Villa ‘82, 70’s and 80’s Liverpool, who were pretty much entirely English with maybe 2-3 Scottish or Irish players?

And still won nothing at international level

How can little old England be expected to compete with China, India, the USA, Brazil, Indonesia, Pakistan and Nigeria when you actually look into the population difference between them? On this evidence we are massively overachieving even getting past the group stages at tournaments.

I can’t believe people expect Scotland to be able to compete with a country like Iceland and actually progress out of their group at a tournament at ANY point in their history. Iceland also who don’t have access to a bigger neighbour that they can just turn up on the doorstep of and take players who can’t get a game for their own national team.
