It's one of the pinnacles of the British sporting calendar and as such, like many others, the national anthem is played. Nice to see lots of the crowd singing too!

Disgraceful that people throw money at this sport. It's basically open murder of horses. The horses aren't the ones choosing to jump over dangerously high fences. Ridden to their deaths.

It's a terrble shame when horses die, but 0.2% of horses that race in Britain suffer serious injuries and less die. Open murder is therefore hyperbole.

Brilliant horse, absolutely brilliant. I wasn't happy with the such small odds that he had, but in the end they've been justified.

What a letdown. Pleasant Company was running well then got unseated with two to jump. Rathvinden just didn't have the legs at the end. Probably the least dramatic National in years that.

Well done to Davy Russell & co. though like, amazing horse that.

Do you have stats for what % die over the Grand National weekend? I think it's likely to be higher than 0.2% given the ridiculously dangerously high fences. Far, far too dangerous for the animals.

Before today, since 2000 there have been 12 deaths at the actual national. If on average there's 40 runners, that's 12 out of 720 which equals 0.016%.

Over the entire weekend, two died yesterday and none on Friday and I think that's the first of the day (may be wrong). I think that'll still be a very low percentage.
