Agreed. I wonder if we do have a little spending money which striker would be a good choice for us in the closing stages of this transfer window that would actually jump at coming to us?

"But as I say he is very happy, I have a good relationship with him, he's focused on what he wants to do and he's looking forward to this weekend.

"He's very happy, he's been excellent especially the last couple of weeks as we get towards the start of the season, he's looking sharper and sharper. We're not welcoming any bids particularly 24 hours before the start of the season to take one of our best players away."

Defo trying to deflect the attention away ;)

Yeh read that two and got my hopes up. But thats been settled I think. Or at least that is what Boro's claiming. If Boro start to fade early and Southgate gets a early dismissal watch this happening in the winter window. I think this is the first shot over the bough. Just to make Yak feel wanted.

I think he would be mad to turn down an opportunity to play in one of the youngest squads in England, (I know boro is young, but they are not very good and we are.), in Europe, with a good manager, sorry Southgate - stick to ordering pizza.

Also, we are moving in the right direction, got some great talent on board. Plus he would be playing with two international team mates.

Cmon Southgate, do the right thing.

This reminds me of the time Barmby came down from Boro.

The translation is:

Everton wants to sign Manuel Fernandes. The English club where the red player played in the second half of last season is willing to go to nine million euros to guarantee the services of the midfielder, whose contract is shared between Benfica and the investment fund, GSA. Valencia is also in the race for the player.

The British club is, at this time, in conversations with Benfica. The club chairman, Bill Kenwright, is leading the negotiation. And, after having the offer for the Dragon (Porto’s nickname) Lucho González refused, the leader of the "blues" wants to guarantee a replacement quickly, especially because the English league starts the day after tomorrow. Bill Kenwright is currently in London trying to ensure the signing of the Middlesbrough striker Yakubu whilst simultaneously opening negotiations for the Portuguese international.

Already last January the Everton chairman tried to guarantee Manuel Fernandes’ loan for one more season, but that scenario did not appeal to the player whilst Benfica were also not receptive, putting too high a price on the contract.

Now the objective is really to purchase the midfielder in an effort by Bill Kenwright that will satisfy the manager David Moyes’s, whilst also increasing his popularity with the fans who had earlier "asked for" Manuel Fernandes’ continuity.

At this time, the Portuguese international midfielder is considered one of the main elements of the Benfica team for the manager, Fernando Santos. However, that doesn’t mean that a transfer is considered non-negotiable
