How Benitez could work

My only shining light in terms of transfers is that Brands was responsible for signing Doucoure and Godfrey who have been key signings so I am hoping he has discussed what players he will bring in for Benitez and not the other way around.

I hope you're right, but I dont see it.

Aside from all that's already been said about benitez not being close to the right appointment for our club, for many reasons aside from his rs past, I just can't see him working well with brands and the dof system.

It will be exactly the same as it was with Ancelotti, and the fsw will want to bring his own signings in.

If we were really following the dof system, brands would have signed the players he has identified already - we wouldn't be waiting for our next manager to join us before signing anyone, especially looking at the gaping holes in our squad.

For me, after signing the new contract, Brands is there simply for the money and has no professional pride in what his role should mean.

I hope it's not just the money that Benitez is coming for...

If Rafael Benitez is announced as Everton manager soon rightly or wrongly as supporters we will get behind Everton.

I am not a fan of Benitez on a personal level but I feel my view is shared with a large percentage of our fans but I believe he will want to WIN games and be successful because he is professional. So let's get on with it.

So record straight, how could this appointment benefit us.

Tactics

In terms of tactical preparation, we have to swallow some pride and admit, Benitez has got a better track record than the majority of our managers over the last 10 years.

I think in terms of football style, I think we have to brace ourselves for similar style as Carlo because of the quality of the squad.

I think Benitez will make us a more defensive impact especially if we can get a right back who will balance our defensive line.

He will play a 4-2-3-1 or 5-4-1 just like Carlo so aren't chopping and changing our style which is plus as I doubt we will ripping apart our squad like we all want to so like his work at Newcastle, I think he will be prepared to work with the majority of this squad.

Man Management

I think his managerial man management is closer to Moyes who will pick players who work for him rather than picking a player who is fancier. I think for some in our squad have been given the carrot FAR too much so I think this could be a huge surprise for them but we could see some our "squad" players could find themselves actually becoming an asset.

It's time this squad needs to be adult and actually address that these players are not responsible or working harder that other lesser so players at rival and lower clubs.

I think Benitez will work best with a small squad and his style will filter out they mollycoddle environment we have.

Transfers

This is a concern for me because I don't think highly of his past signing but he has shown some very good glimpse:
Alonso, Koulibaly, Jorginho.

I hope Brands had already lined up his targets and spoke to Benitez regarding his plans because we have gaping holes at right back, centre midfield and winger/forward options.

We need add quickly and efficiently this summer but also find the balance with finances with players such as Kean, Bernard etc who had questions marks over their future.

I am not even thinking about players leaving who we like so if a huge bid comes in, it will be interesting to see what the board do.

We also will see how much this board will back him and I think he will be given funds but not the millions we crave.

The Impact

We are hitting the nuclear button on Everton with this appointment.

His first 6 games are a strong start to build on especially with fans hopefully being back at Goodison.

It will be substance over style football but ultimately I think we will all except wins over good football. Ideally we want both but we had Carlo Ancelotti and James then finished 10th.

I think it is a practical and sensitive appointment for a manager who has experience in the league and worked with a smallish budget at Newcastle.

His impact will be toxic from the start, he will have no bedding in period and if the results don't match Carlo's impact, he will soon know it.

Final Point

I think this is a turning point for the club. At board level, I believe they have taken their biggest risk against the fanbase above Allardyce. Carlo appointment was excellent but he stabbed us in the back and as a fan this appointment rubs salt into us.

I want Everton to win, I care about my club and I think this will most likely turn sour but I don't want it too because this means Everton fail.

Let's hope this works out and we can make peace over previous Benitez past comments, get some early signings who work out wonderfully and win something.

I hope
Do you think he will get a loud boo from supporters as he walks out for match 1. You know, normally we applaud. Let's go in a different direction this season just for fun?

Rafael has worked with a DOF before. He has stated that is usually the model around the world, everywhere but England, but England is slowly starting to do it too.

He has explained that he will say what positions he thinks need improving, the DOF will go off and compile a list, he will then say yes or no to the players, that's how it works.

Ancelotti admitted he didn't, know much about Doucoure or Godfrey before they were signed.
They both were Brands signings

It makes sense to work with a manager rather than signing players independent of him.

If anyone wants the team to lose because he's on the touchline then they need to find another team.

I dont want Benitez anywhere near this club, not just for the Liverpool connections, or his past comments but his style of football which is very Mourinho like of defensive, dull and relying on individual quality - which we have just had nearly a year watching. I cant believe the board would employ him either.

But here we are. I will support the team and want them to win even when they are sh&t and do my head in. He's here now by the looks of it so I want him to do well and the team to do well

I think by the time we play Southampton, I think it will quickly quiet down from the embarrassing nanna bedsheets.

If I was Benitez first things I would do, I would be on the offensive to downplay his connection to the RS but play on his connection to the City.

I would sit down with Brands, highlight right back, centre midfield, right winger and a striker alternative. Get them transfers in quickly, his squad ready for a pre-season and stamp his managerial skills into this squad

If pre-season is a nightmare and transfers nowhere to be seen then just bring him out while the players are kneeling for Black Lives Matter so you can't boo! Problem Solved!

Exactly.

At the end of the day it doesn't really matter. If it matters so much you clearly need extra fulfilment elsewhere in your lives.
No, it does matter. But it can matter relatively to other things. Just because people are angry with the prospect of Benitez being our manager doesn't mean they dont have other things going on. People can compartmentalize stuff in their life. This is an Everton forum of course it is going to be prevalent in here.

Who are you to say what other people should do with their lives anyway?

Why are people being so sanctimonious to fellow fans?

It's horrible and if we sit back and look at the cause of it all, this is the big problem with the appointment.

In a similar vien, you have numerous posters suggesting anybody who supports the appointment is either a kopite or clueless.

As for emotions being compartmentalised, that's good. People can of course be angry at the decision. I do however hope a high percentage of the whiners stay true to their word and give up their season tickets. I'd love to move closer to the stairs.

I'm not happy with the appointment but I can see the logic behind it. I can't figure out why Benitez has any interest in the role at all. He has more than enough money for himself/his family for the next couple of generations.

Look at what it is doing to people on here. You have always struck me as one of our more level headed posters on here, one of the better ones, yet I and others are getting annoyed at you and others calling people whiners, you are annoyed at people calling you a kopite or clueless. We are all Evertonians and to be honest we are probably doing nothing that we wouldn't usually do on here. The divisiveness is massive and he hasn't even been appointed yet!

Anyone who thinks things will just be normal and everyone gets on with it is wrong, the feelings are too strong and the reasonable ones telling the angry ones to grow up etc is going to cause a massive argument as will the kopite shouts coming back at them.

My anger will be 100% towards the board if this goes through which is incredibly rare for me.
