How did you come to be an Evertonian?

Cheers @Groucho ;)

How did you become an Evertonian?

You know what? I think it’s because I just like being contrarion sometimes. I grew up in Stockport, so I spent my youth surrounded by Man City and Man United fans and the odd Stockport County fan. Part of me thinks that I subconsciously went for Everton just to be my own man. I was the only Evertonian in my school, and I went to a bloody big school. Everton has just always felt right. Maybe its because Everton is one of those rare clubs where you can always expect them to win but still find reasons to be hard done by when they don’t? As long as I can remember, Everton have been fighting from underneath and been unfashionable to the mainstream. Maybe I associate the struggles the club has had with my own ones that I’ve encountered in life? Maybe that’s how most of us Generation Y/Z Evertonians feel? We didn’t grow up with the success, so the way we see the story of the club more as a tale of standing against adversity, as opposed to the story of a big successful club that you support because they are truly the best?

Or maybe it’s just the boss Royal Blue shirts? Who knows. All I do know is that I love Everton. To truly find out why would spoil the magic I think.

Never supported another club before Everton, so they got to me first.
Was brought into the fold by my mate who's dad is a relocated scouser and goes religiously.

Most of my other mates support Bradford, the local team, so I join them at Valley Parade a few times a season.
(Far less than I get to Goodison)

Wasn't attracted by the glory/bigger club thing, just went with great people and I kept going.

(WOOL. etc etc)

Australian lad first ever game of football I seen was the 95 Fa cup final as a youngster feel in love with the club and the passion of the supporters ever since.. Getting up at 2/3 o'clock in the morning all the time filled with hopes and dreams of huge win only to be dissapointed 50% of the time... life of an Australian everton supporter

I honestly supported Everton to pee off my RS mates, didn't want to follow the sheep supporting them and Man U.

One of the best decisions I've ever made.

I have a somewhat long story about that. Not being a native Englishman or having any direct connection to the PL, I just began following the sport in '06 following my first experience watching the World Cup.

I was (and still am) enthralled with the sport. American sports would do well to adopt the philosophies of how to organize and reward teams for performance, not merely for whomever paid the entry fee to be a member in a closed group.

But I digress. If you are truly interested, I won't clog up the forum here, but I had blogged my experiences several years ago and those specific ones can be found here, although it's no longer active or maintained properly (Google scrapped all of my graphics c. 2013), the text of the posts are there. The specific posts are found in August and December of 2011, and March of 2012.

tl;dr - Footy newb, made naive choices, I am now happily an Everton fan.

Well, i was a fan of a Crvena zvezda from Belgrade, but as i learned about violence on stadiums and muddy club's businesses, i didn't want to be a supporter of that. I was few years without a favorite club, but somehow i tricked myself that Everton is what i ask from football club. How wrong was i! :)

I've always had a liking for the delije, as my username shows

Dad was never really into footy but would say he is a Liverpool fan. All my family are red. My dads best mate and his lad were big blues so I started to support the blues. They lived on Queens Drive between the 5 ways and Allerton road and I remember standing outside their house in 95 with them. The road was lined the entire way, everyone happy. Great memory. He died a few years ago and every time I drive down that stretch of queens drive, past his house I think about that day

I was always into masochism, and one day there I was with my favourite ball clamps on, soldering iron up my arse, dripping hot wax on my nipples when mid drip, I realised it was doing nothing for me anymore
that was the day I realised I must seek a higher form of suffering
