Being able to have your 17 year old mate give you a driving lesson.

for you younger ones .... My mate was 4 or 5 months older than me and in fact passed his test before I turned 17, but he rolled his Mk1 Escort so on the day after my 17th he sat in the passenger seat and I drove us to work (never worked my birthday to this day) and it was all completely legal, prior to that he used to get on the back of my Honda MB5 as that was allowed as well cos he had a full license.

Putting your hot hatch in yer mars name and insuring it for any driver cos it was cheaper.

She never drove my 205 GTI even once, not even to swap the cars round on the drive, but it was registered in her name, and insured in her name with her down as the main driver. Her basic low insurance group shed was in mine so I could build up no claims. My mate had a 50cc ped insured for years just to build up no claims.

Well if you are a Mail reader, the reason is Health and Safety have knocked climbing trees on the head and all the paedohiles have snatched the kids playing footie on the street or they have been radicalized by some preacher in the local mosque.
I know you're being sarcastic about the Mail here, but I just don't buy any papers at all these days.

I read The Express that was in my mum's earlier today, and it's just a comic. Everything will either kill you, give you bird flu or cure diabetes if you believe the papers these days.

She had the Echo too, don't get me started on that.

Oh and on topic, I remember when it was 13p. And this was all fields......

Edit; remember when telly used to be good on Friday and Saturday nights despite there being 300 less channels?

We all did it - 2 x Golf Gti's and 2 x 205 GTI's for me.

Taking pop, bottles back to the shop to get a penny...which you'd then spend on a penny mix....I think it's like a £1.99 pick n mix these days.

Born in 80. We had consoles that were decent by my teens but we still played footy constantly and chased girls. With the technology of today I know of kids that barely leave the house. I just can't fathom being a teenager these days and having to avoid porn for 10 minutes to be able to go eat or something.

There's more fear. Everybody's terrified of everyone else. Homos, pinkies, righties, lefties, immigrants, aliens, Europeans, gypsies, muslims, scroungers... everything and everyone has been pigeon holed and at one point or another will be a scapegoat for something..

Everybody is paranoid. Because they're told to be.

And dogs. They didn't used to bark all night years ago, now, there's hundreds of howling beasties. Maybe they're para too?

i find all the above responses very odd.. most of you sound like you lived outside your whole life, playing in the dirt. dissing the young uns of today for being sat inside staring at a computer for hours on end, nattering to strangers online.....

have a think about it!

kinda what we all do now!

Grandson fell over in the school playground, today . Little graze on his knee . School texted daughter to ask permission to put a plaster on ffs. Daughters friend collected him at hometime , with her own kids , and had to sign an accident form . We used to get grazes and scrapes , cuddle on teachers knee , bit of germolene and back outside .

Drinking used to be part of the job, now it's a sacking offense.
When we were kids we didn't spend the school holidays indoors because a) there was nothing to do b) mum didn't want us under her feet all day c) there was a whole world out there to explore, football and cricket matches to play d) nothing on tv anyway apart from the test card e) the smallest computer was the size of a house and the interwebthingy hadn't been invented. Apart from that the world is pretty much the same as it ever was.
