How important is the EL spot?

absolutely need EL/CL

as for struggling with the added games - its usually the teams that snagged a spot out of the blue like your Sunderlands that tend to struggle as they are in reality awful

we will be fine

60 points will probably be enough this season to qualify for Europa, 65+ may get CL. We look well capable of that unless we're decimated by even more injuries.

We must have it, it grows the club as a brand, appeals to players you want to sign and gives chances for squad players to get minutes. EL is so winnable as well if you don't cock it up in the knock out rounds.

In financial terms it is not that big of a boost if at all, but from an importance POV and it is a minimum level that we need to be achieving.

The likes of Moshiri, Ancelotti and James won’t be sticking around if we can’t elevate ourselves above the domestic competitions every year.

European qualification is a must for us this year if we're going to keep hold of our best players.

Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea and City remain the teams to beat to secure CL places. Beating them over 90 minutes is one thing, but over 38 games with the squad that we have is quite another.

I'd put Everton in a group with Leicester, Southampton and United as teams with hopes still very much alive of breaking into the top 4, but more likely to be battling for Europa places by the end of the season.

Not far behind us, and still with hopes very much alive of breaking into the Europa places, are Villa, West Ham and Wolves.

Back in/before Silva's first season, I didn't want it as our squad was in the middle of recovering from some of the worst transfer business a club's ever done.

Now that our squad and manager has improved considerably from those days, taking into account the revenue and exposure it generates and the higher calibre of player it attracts, there is no longer a debate on whether this is worth qualifying for. It's about as big a no-brainer as you can imagine. If we're not in the CL, we need to be in the EL.
The EL money a complete and utter joke. Group stages winners get 2.9m m and 750k a win. Winners get 8.5 million

CL money.
Getting in to the groups is 15mil
9 mil for getting to round 16
Winning a game is 2.9 mil
Winning it 20 mil

In a normal season with supporters at grounds, any English team that wins the Europa League would probably end up with around £30 million and then add to that the automatic entry in to the champions leaugue, that's not to be sneezed at.

So if you win all 6 games (as any PL side should) in the group stage it wins you 7.4m before you get into the knockouts? I definitely think I'd rather have that money sloshing around than not, especially with FFP.

Playing European football would be a very overdue and important step forward, the financial benefits and ability to attract better players would be incredibly important to our future, we have to become regular a regular European team again.

Please God let’s avoid it. We seriously do not have the squad depth for these games.
it’s extremely hard to win yet boring.
Look at the injuries we’ve had this season just playing the PL games. It’s mad.

Compared to the CL it’s a joke

It’s a very prestigious competition to win. Every club that wins it celebrates doing so with gusto, and that includes the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United.

Problems can arise when you don’t win it, but your participation in the competition has an adverse impact on your performance in the Premier League.
This.
If you dont make at least the semis its a bit of a pain in the arse unless you have a CL quality squad...like Untd, Chelsea and Arsenal recently
Its great for the supporters to go away and Goodison under the lights is mostly good.
Covid changes everything though.

That’s the problem with the comp, flying to the middle of no getting on a bus for hours to play a pub team then flying back for a small amount of money just isn’t worth it, then when you finally get past the groups a CL quality squads beats you

From my perspective, EL is massive to clubs in our league (Croatian). We only have 1 CL slot and it's just for CL playoffs. Same for EL. So any Europe is a massive boost, not only to club finances but to player price tags as well. Clubs here survive mostly by selling players, and if they're not playing big games (which EL is for us) or participate in national team, then that means no money.

But in PL, which has so much money, the benefits of EL to me seem non-existant unless you win it. Your schedule is packed, the money is there just for staying in the league and EL doesn't have any weight to it. I'd even say EL is much harder to win than CL since you get CL teams in playoff stage as well, but the prestige of winning it is not there. And you certainly don't need EL to bump up the player prices. I mean, Godfrey came from a relegated team for gbp 25m. Our national champion can only dream of selling a player for that much money unless it's a generational talent like, say, Modrić.
