How stupid are Manu?

The irony!
I'm well aware I have a narrative and an agenda as an Everton fan. But given that I've just watched all the goals we've conceded again, I wager I have more idea of what happened than you do.

If you read all of my posts in here, you'll notice that I AGREE that we still need better defenders and TIME. I agree with that. I disagree regarding the midfield though, we've addressed that with 3 very good additions in Di Maria, Herrera and Blind. Could we have done with another holding midfielder or box-to-box CM? Definitely. But beggars can't be choosers.

But the way some have reacted to our signings is laughable. Any supporter of any club in world football would be absolutely made up with the signings of Di Maria and Falcao. I am still on cloud 9 with it all.

As for Everton, I am discussing my feelings on you in the relevant threads. I think you are also desperate for new defenders and I don't rate Martinez as someone who can address the defensive frailties of a team well. This is why I think he'll be the perfect fit as Barcelona manager in a year or two - his teams are well known for keeping the ball and playing easy-on-the-eye tiki taka but have also always been suspect at the back.

This wouldn't matter at Barcelona because they've always been suspect at the back throughout history and usually have 80% possession stats anyway. But this isn't a luxury Everton can afford because you won't be able to bring in players of Iniesta and Messi's ilk and the Premier League is punishing if you can't defend properly, as L'pool found out last season. I am shocked Martinez didn't bring in 2 central defenders in the window and shipped out one of Jagielka or Distin. Exactly the same problem as us really except we did address it with one purchase of Rojo at CB, plus we now have far better striking options.

Over the summer they have shipped out Evra, Nani, Welbeck, Hernandez, Ferdinand, Vidic and who else? They needed a clear out, but theres a couple of names in there I am surprised with.

Lovely stuff. You'd be a bit like them last season I think, great going forward and suspect at the back but for the fact that you've brought in these players who will take time to adapt to the league, whereas their players had developed partnerships and were used to the league.
I don't think you'll make top four for mine, as I think you'll have the same issues Spurs did in having too many new players that haven't played with each other or in the pl before, but having said that positions 3-7 are a lottery this season.

Limited resources. We already bought in 5 players this window with no major outs.

For Everton that's all but unprecedented. Replacing Jagielka and Distin with better options would have required even more money that we simply don't have.

I think you've signed a lot of quality this season and I am impressed with some of the names you've got, Di Maria is truly world class, Falcao is a global name and Luke Shaw is better than his old club and English name suggests, there still feels like there is a hole in the midfield and a squidgy underbelly but I think United are a force again this season.

As for us... Our defence was rock solid last year, one pre season won't destroy us, we'll get back to where we were, a little confidence and throw in some Stones appearances and we'll be fine. We've got better up front and I think, just like your boys, we will be a match for anyone this season.
At our worst we got a draw against Arsenal, draw against Leicester and scored 3 past Chelsea, we are only going to get better this season.

Could be an interesting one but I defo think United and Everton will finish pretty close this year.

Oh and Besic is both a DM and CB, so along with Stones does give us the cover we need at that position, mainly I'm disappointed we didn't get a RB. Lose Coleman, lose games.

All a bit of a gamble as there's only room for four piggies at the trough.

(If I were any good at this Electrical Interweb thingy, I'd insert a funny picture of pigs eating here.)

Whoever crashes will have some highly paid stars to placate and books to cook. Still, at least the followers of that club will be able to spend the summer designing protest scarves, organising marches, and defending their franchise in the media.

Oh dear. You really do come across as nothing else but bitter and angry that we're signing good players. Di Maria was Real Madrid's best player last season bar Ronaldo. You can't go even go there.

You dont have 1 single player who would get into Madrid or Barca's team.. Or Bayerns.

Where has this bragging come from? you were the 7th best team in England last season, and have 1 point out of 3 this year.

You have sold Hernandez and welbeck (the only pace you have up front) and replaced them with a 28 yrd old (Allegdley) who is laughing all the way to the bank having not played any football for 8 months.

You have replaced arguably the best LB in England over the past 5 years with a fat, overpriced kid.

You have sold the 2 best CB's in the past 10 years and replaced them with nobody.

You have paid £30m+ for a guy who was left out of Bilbao's team lots last season, and £14m for another Left back to play CM.

Nobody is jealous of your dealings mate... infact i think everybody is pissing themselves at you.

It's simply glorious to see

You are ignoring Di Maria then?

This will either go amazingly, averagely or really bad. I vote really bad. You don't have a midfield and you don't have a defence.

unfortunately for us, i think another space has been taken for champions league places. they will get the defenc right (like we will) and their fire power will be to much for the majority of teams.
