How stupid are Manu?

They have probably lost the way of Manchester United a little bit," Phelan told BBC Sport.
"Now, rather than produce, it may be the case where they are buying in.

"Someone like a Danny Welbeck has been part of United's identity and that has been broken.

"What will happen in the future now, nobody knows but that thread has been broken now."

So is he suggesting whilst the teams at the top Chelsea,City,Liverpool and Arsenal all pay top money for players and improve there squads, Utd should do it "The right way" and try to bring through youth players, Something the other teams don't do

Utd have failed to reach the CL and are someway behind the top 2, Of course they are going to blow a load of money to try to claw it back, Crazy the stick Utd are getting form the press for spending money they have earned through building a massive fan base through 20 years of dominance in this country, Even with all the money spent they are well within FFP as well

What you're saying is right, United have to do what's necessary to reach top 4 but you can't fault United fans like Phelan and a lot of the Redcafe folks for feeling disillusioned and detached from the United they always knew and loved. Let's face it, they cleared out genuine United supporting 'home-grown' players and brought in lots of new faces who essentially came just for the paycheck, that's hard for a lot of fans to swallow and this is not what they are used to. You would probably feel the same way if Baines, Coleman, Howard, Mirallas etc. all left overnight, it would no longer be the Everton you know, everything would change.

I sympathise with them because there was a period where I felt completely disconnected from Arsenal when we ripped the heart out of the 2011 side, Fabregas, Nasri, Clichy, Eboue etc. all left practically overnight through the backdoor, I couldn't even recognize the team the following season, and we were playing literally like a soulless club losing 8-2 etc. it's because we had no soul, the identity of the club was gone, our attractive possession football gone, it damaged the brand and fans like me discontinued our Arsenal membership at the time I'm afraid to say. It was a dark time but we have since slowly regained our identity and stability.

Good post

I get were you are coming from but Utd have no time to be sitting about allowing the top 4 to get further away from them

Lets be honest the players they have sold have been replaced with better quality players, Hernandez/Welbeck for Falcao, Evra for Shaw and Blind and Kagawa for Di Maria, They have been lucky as a team were they could go out and buy 1-2 top quality players every summer and keep the spine of the squad the same as the last, Ferguson's poor transfer dealings and stubbornness to buy quality midfield players have put them in this situation

That's a good point yeah. There's no doubt they bought serious quality and I agree that Ferguson has to take some of the blame for the shambolic midfield he left.

I have actually got worse mate and the language even worse. It's the desperation for a bloody trophy that gets me so wound up. I swear I would be a better man, father and husband if Everton just won me a bloody trophy once every couple of years ;)
I'm not sure it's possible for you to be a better man.

Ferguson bailed at the right time, He knew what kind of squad he had left regardless of them winning the league

Keeping RVP fit for the entire season ensured they won the league that season imo, Not a chance would Ferguson have spent 20m+ on a 29 year old with injury problems if he hadn't have already decided he was retiring, Its was a final throw of the dice to try and leave on a high and it worked a treat (That coupled with City being massive bottlers)

Seems like a dumb story. Who was the last great player produced by United's youth system? To argue that the thread "has been broken now" ignores that it has been broken for ages, but ignorance, whether intentional or not, has obscured this observation. If anything, this is a story that United's front office is as far behind as the starting XI. While Arsenal seem to have figured out how to run a club as a sustained business, and City and Chelsea have figured out how to work FFP by stocking up on young imports, United have been for some time lagging in the front office and dressing room.

If this is obvious even to me, why is it a BBC story?

Van Gaal saying his task is more difficult at ManU than it would have been at Spurs. What a load of rubbish. I'd like to see him try to spend 121m net in a single window at Spurs. From a neutral perspective, I kind of liked LVG at first but his constant whine is making me dislike him a lot already.

Absolutely. Still dining out on the Class of 92.

I think he meant spurs had a better and/or more balanced squad going into this summer.

There's also much more pressure at utd, the consequences ofnspurs finishing 5th-8th for the next few years aren't awful, if utd don't get back into CL footy in a hurry their shares will plummet.

He chose it, wish he'd shut up about the difficulties of the job and get on with it. Every manager position in football has its own set of difficulties ffs.

Bale slipped through their fingers. Having thrice been in for Fabregas, how did he end up at Chelsea? Could have sworn I watched Di Maria rip P.Nev a new bumhole at Goodison for Benfica so many years ago (so fast on the left wing - not Nev!) but his place was seemingly upgraded. Shelling out 75% of the Bale fee, late seems madness. They'd raided Spurs before and made it work.
Few leagues can be dominated by a side for the entirety of its existance, and this could be a long term step down into the doldrums for United, it'll mean a lot more extra spice and will to win at all costs when they play the anfield crew.
