How stupid are Manu?

Don't know where you read that - he's on less than Rooney. £246 million per week. Isn't Fat Man on £300m per week?

How will they react? I don't know, no-one does. Chelsea and Man City seem to do ok when they splash the cash on big names though, we should be alright.

They said it on a 5live.

Think this might be a bit different as Falcao is all about the money.

*disclaimer he'll still score loads and loads*

I've read/heard about 3 different stories on it all today. It's a bit of a joke really - we always seem to make things complicated. Liverpool, Chelsea and City just buy players with ease and they're ready to play! But when we throw cash about, we still can't get it right lol
Not just you mate - think we've had our own issues with work permits. Not that we have had the same type of money as you do to put in brown envelopes!

Surprised, given the notice you had of Vidic & Ferdinand leaving, that you didn't sign at least one other CB early in the window whist you were trying for Hummels. Would have taken a bit of the pressure off.

Herrera is primarily a box-to-box CM, a "number 8", so no. He can also play a number 6 though (holding) and also a number 10 (behind the strikers) which is where he spent a lot of last season at Bilbao.

Thanks. Assuming that RvP, Rooney, di Maria and Falcao will all start, you'd imagine Blind would be in midfield alongside Rooney and di Maria (?), with two wing backs (Shaw and Valencia?) and Rojo, Jones, Smalling/Evans at the back?

Still seems a bit of a lopsided team. Rooney hasn't ever really played in midfield before, and most of di Maria's best games have been on the wing rather than the middle. The defence and full backs still seem weak compared to previous United sides.

For the huge outlay, it still seems a bit off to me. Will he ditch the system perhaps? I mean he was talking a lot about getting used to the philosophy, which sounded like players would need to get used to the system, so I'd be amazed if he dropped it so soon, given his personality being rather belligerent and all.

@RAWK Meltdown

What are your thoughts on blind? Hes never played centre back as far as I know (could be wrong) but could probably slot in on the left of a back 3.

However he seems so lightweight to play there and lacks pace. Defensive mid looks tailor made for him on the continent but here hes up against some tough lads from other teams who could steamroller him.

Looks to me like a left back but shaws there?

Shaw will be 1st choice left back mate. Rojo will be 2nd choice left back.

Many journos, people close to Van Gaal at United and supporters reckon we're going to change to a 4-4-2 diamond to accomodate the new signings. So we'll look like this:

But if we stick with the 3-4-1-2 system, we'll probably line up like this:

I suppose though you can look at it like this,

They have brought in Shaw, Rojo and Blind and have 3 'local' centre backs in evans smalling and jones.

Could be that they want to sort the left side out now and then the right side next summer. Or else its a whole new defence and a lot of upheaval.

The thing is, Van Gaal doesn't rate Evans and Smalling. He tried for Hummels. We couldn't bring him in this window.

Long term, Evans hasn't got a future here. Smalling might have a squad place, for League Cup, FA Cup games etc.

He'll fit in perfectly at United then

Reckon it'll be a tough battle. I can't see them getting anywhere near Chelsea or City. Arsenal are decent enough, whilst you'd expect Liverpool to be up there or there abouts. Add Spurs and ourselves into the mix and it's not easy to get into the European slots.

The United transfer policy seems all over the place. I mean if they go with the team I use above, it'll mean Mata, Fellaini, Herrera all sit out. Three players all signed very recently for big money, and yet none make the first choice lineup.

Second option seems more likely with blind being eased in I imagine. The right side looks a bit weak though and centre midfield will be reliant on one of the centre backs probably jones to step out.

Think falcao has been brought in to do a RVP myself and get alot of goals to cover the short term weaknesses.

Shaw will be 1st choice left back mate. Rojo will be 2nd choice left back.

Di Maria isn't a Centre Mid, and if you played those 2 in the middle they're getting clattered by bigger stronger midfielders all day long, exposing your average defence.

Erm, Di Maria played there all of last season in Real Madrid's Champions League winning side!

------ Modric ---- Di Maria -----

Bale ------ Benzema ------ Ronaldo

At least do your research first mate!

Alot relies on individual brilliance from the forwards I think.

Could go one way or the other.

I agree. We're still going to struggle at the back in my opinion. But that's where we will build in the next window - like I said before, Evans and Smalling's days are numbered, Van Gaal isn't stupid.

I guess that's where I'm confused by the transfer policy. LvG has been on repeatedly all summer about the need to change the systems and it'll take a while to get used to. Yet if you stick with his seemingly preferred system, you miss out Blind, a type of player you yourself said you're crying out for. Yet the alternative is ditching LvG's preferred system 3 games into the season.

If you're relying on Di Maria and Hererra to dominate in the middle you're going to be disappointed.
