How stupid are Manu?

Fair play mate. My thoughts exactly. Do the Glazers set budgets and stuff, or just take their cash out when it suits them? Wrongly worded. Do they actually run the club, or just own it, if you get my drift?

The Glazers are parasites but United supporters who claim they "never spend any cash" are just as bad as the Pool supporters who claim that G&H never gave Fat Spanish Waiter any money.

They make money available every window. Fergie didn't want to spend much of it because he was stubborn. Moyes was useless and spunked it on on you-know-who and Mata who we didn't really need.

They own the club but let Ed and the suits run it. Woodward gets a bad rep amongst Utd supporters but he's very shrewd and has brought in some incredible deals so far.

So what have Moyes and LDV spent between them? Must be touching £200m. Including the new Rooney contract almost certainly. And although your 1st XI you posted looks excellent, the squad still needs major surgery. That was my thoughts, that the Glazers wont keep the cash coming.

Time will tell I guess.

We've spent a silly amount of money on the Rooney contract, he simply isn't worth that. He is very important to the club OFF the pitch though, his marketing value is enormous and he sells us millions of shirts - god knows how with a face only a mother could love!

Appparently, Van Gaal sat down with Ed Woodward before the season began and told him that we need to invest in a lot of areas or it's goodbye CL footy for the next 5-10 years. Ed took this news to the Glazers and they are now spending the cash as it's their investment they need to protect.

Lots of gossip over at Red Issue last few days that the Glazers long term plan is to sell the club in 2019. So they'll need to make sure that it's going to be worth the cash they want for it.

With a defence that has more holes than one of Ena Sharples hairnets, what lunatic at Manu decided that the largely useless Phil Jones - who cannot be considered a regular starter in any defensive position - justifies a 5-year contract extension and an additional £25k a week ??

Have they never heard of offering incentives rather than just lumping up an already ridiculous salary package ??

If ever a decision has been made with little or no serious thought into the inevitable escalation of other bit-part players contracts, terms and conditions - this is the one.

Clubs like us get questioned over why we fork our £28m and big wages for Rom, but we urgently needed a goalscoring CF and that is our justification...

Don't think even the RS would have made Jones such a crazy deal.

Shakes head in disbelief at the direction football is heading.
Looks like the mancs are struggling after Ferguson. They`re making decisions that don`t make sense. They were shouting from the rooftops when Ferguson left about how much money they were going to spend, then cocked up one offer after another (or players just blanked them) and panicked on the final day of the window and bought Fellaini for a shrewd £28m!
The winter window ended up with Mata for near £40m when it was obvious to everyone with at least three footballing brain cells that the defence and midfield was in a mess.
This summer yet again they made the wise decision of telling the world they are loaded and are going to bring in loads of top quality. £30m on a young left back (!),near £30m on a CM who I can`t comment as I know nothing about him and now talk of £65-£70m on Di Maria. It`s crazy, they still haven`t sorted out the defence and go and blow a British record on position were they are not exactly struggling (Mata, Rooney, Kagawa, Jaunjizz). It smells of panic and a desperation to tell the world that they can still attract the top players and will pay well over the odds to do that.
I do think they can still afford this kind of spending without European Cup for a while due to their commercial department.

CL or bust, (not literally) then this year? Or maybe next I guess. Interesting insight from you mate. Appreciate it.;)

No worries mate, I enjoy the debate :)

But yes, we NEED to qualify for CL this season but I personally think we'll finish anywhere between 4th and 6th. I'd be happy enough with Europa League footy next season whilst Van Gaal builds his team and installs his philosophy.

The thing is, Fergie had us playing more or less the same way for decades. Our current crop of players, especially the older ones, just can't seem to get their heads around the modern, more tactical approach.

We've had a very transfer window so far, only the modern day spoilt United supporter (and there's loads of them) will say otherwise. We've signed Luke Shaw who is very promising, Herrera who has been one of Bilbao's best midfielders for a few years now, Rojo who is apparently an extremely quick and tough central defender, Di Maria who is one of the best players in the world and apparently we've got De Jong and Blind to come.

On top of that we've shipped out Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Bebe, Nani (although still on the wage bill!) will probably see Anderson go too. We've got rid of the older players who were clearly past it and Van Gaal wants to go for a youthful, technical set up.

We are still desperate for another central midfielder of quality. I would love a player like your very own James McCarthy here, he's a superb little player. Obviously we wouldn't go in for him as he's happy at Everton but you know what I mean.

I am not in denial, I know we're facing a difficult period. But that's what being a football supporter is about, getting behind the team through the bad AND good times. I still remember standing on the Stretty in 1988, feeling the wind and rain blow through and giggling at a drunk Paul McGrath fall around the defence.

Now I go to Old Trafford and although the atmosphere isn't what it was then, it's a different world. I am lucky to support United, we've had some amazing times over the years, memories everywhere.

Rather sad its all over though hey?

Hands off McCarthy mate!

Was lucky enough to sit on the Stretford End on a freebie many years ago, Sunderland, FA Cup. Mostly sound lads around me. Was the Cantona era, pretty sure he scored a late equaliser for you. But the atmosphere was great. Partly because 9000 Sunderland fans played a part, so it must be a shame if its a bit meh for the long term fans.

To be honest mate, most Premier League grounds are like graveyards these days. I don't rate the 'British supporter', I never have - especially when you go abroad and see how amazing some of the German and Spanish atmospheres can be.

In the Premier League I'd say that Palace has the best atmosphere due to it's 'Ultras' section of the ground. We need to bring that into every ground IMO, just 1 stand for the hardcore and not coffee sippng old ladies.

Not that fussed tbh mate. The match determines the mood and noise. This enforced singing stuff just makes me squirm a bit. Each to his own.

I know what you're saying, I'm just fed up with being surrounded by people taking photos and looking at me stupid when I sing everytime I go to the footy now.

I don't know what Goodison is like these days tbh, I haven't been for about 10 years.

I dont get there often mate, but nothing like that! It is loud and snarly when needs be, but quiet when not much is happening. It is the trade off isnt it? You go the "Global brand" route, and you cant be surprised that if it works, you will get non-traditional fans at matches.

Swap a gazillion pound shirt deal for no plastics at the match? Deal or No Deal?
