How unfit we are

Nothing to do with fitness.

The poor quality of our squad means that:

a.) We can't afford to make too many subs because they are very poor/kids
b.) We have to defend for large periods of the game which is difficult and lends itself to switching off and making mistakes
c.) Our lack of attacking prowess doesn't breed confidence which zaps energy

The Everton Not Active League Table (last 10 years)

Percentage of games the following players were available and played (start or sub) for Everton during their Everton careers, some are still with us - if sent on loan basically they were a waste of money (and could, theoretically, been available to play for Everton) - sat on the bench doing nothing is a negative and doesn't count as "available"

Schneiderlin 57% SOME INJURY PROBLEMS
Gomes 56% INJURY PRONE
Tosun 32% INJURY?
Delph 31% ALWAYS INJURED
Gibson 29% INJURY PRONE
Kean 28% ATTITUDE PROBLEM
Besic 15% INJURY PRONE
Gbamin 6%

Garbutt not included (which is probably just as well!)

We defended deep today and look to play on the counter. This means we have to cover more space as we constantly chase the ball. And because we defend deep our players have to do more running to get up the pitch to attack. We use more energy this way. Added into this we press a much larger area of the pitch.

You look at Liverpool for example who press very well and seem very fit.
The reason for this is they play a very high line. Their defenders pretty much sit on the halfway line. This pushes their forwards and midfielders much higher up the pitch. Their pressing zones are therefore much smaller as they will only be pressing a quarter of the pitch.

7 injuries already. And every season the fitness team changes and still injury after injury. Is it conditioning or what?

True although they have a decent injury list too
