Great game today. But I was still expecting him to cock up in the dying minutes of the game.

He also doesn't do himself any favours with his reactions to conceding goals, it's difficult to explain but he always seems to make himself look worse whenever they score.

with all due respect... all I see is a load of nothing... defence should not have been that deep and howard should not have raced off his line when the Defence missed the header.... had he stayed , cisse would have been forced to bring the ball down and pick a spot... giving howard a second or two to close down the angles...cisse may still have finished but he would have had to work a damn site harder to do so.

Pick a spot? HAHAHA. He would have had the entire goal to shoot at from 8 yards out. That's a lot of spots to pick.

He is American...so that diminishes about 50% of his perceived play most on this board.

Naa, they love Landon, wanted McBride to stay and howard was the best keeper in the league a while back. His just cost us a few goals this season. If he can recapture his form he could be a key man for the rest of the season.

If he doesn't, then that's a position we would need to strengthen and get a back up with a realistic chance of replacing him.

He would have had to bring the ball down, pick his head up and then, like I said, pick a spot. Howard racing off his line and then stopping as he changed his mind made cisse's mind up for him. As fit the other comment about him being American.....I couldn't care less where he comes from...as long as he performs.

He's a shot stopper, and a good one for the most part but he clearly isn't commanding the six yard box. When the ball is in the air around the six yard box I'm always concerned. With the amount of protection keepers get he ought to take a lot of pressure of the defence by coming for the ball and catching it, but he doesn't.

Strikers are supposed to score goals but they sometimes miss....

Its somewhat different to be fair. A keeper making saves is more akin to an outfield player being able to trap a ball. A basic requisite.

Howard has been alright the past 2 games to be fair. He has a knack of doing that though, whenever I am at the end of my tether with him he seems to produce a good performance.

He certainly wasnt to blame for the goal last night. It was a team cock up but mostly due to Distin in my eyes. He was behind the defensive line at first for some reason and then went for a ball he had no right to go for. Such is life though.

What a silly thing to say.

And it doesn't make sense.

I will disagree politely.

I have spent the hours to read the all 75 pages of this thread and when Howard has a poor game, oh how the masses howl and then are nearly silent when Howard plays lights out.

Then moving on to the thread about Butland and how he is the second coming of christ (cos Jesus was a goalie; fact) I can't see how an unproven english keeper is so highly rated but whatever. Just using Butland as an example that there is a bias.

The guy only has the longest active streak in consecutive games played...since the other American at Spurs was benched for Lloris. No one even mentions that *eye roll*
He is also 3rd in the league behind Joe Hart and Asmir Begovic for Goals against compared to those other keepers who play every game.

I have to believe there is a bias against him because he is A) Not English and B) not some sexy foreigner with a hard to pronounce name ;)

Your wrong mate.. he's just the current scapegoat.. Ask Osman, Hibbert, Beckford, Saha, Billy...None of them American but one foot wrong and they were crucified for doing things once others could do all game.
Not saying Billy and Saha (near the end) were good enough by the way.

Have to disagree. Coleman and Gibson also fall into this category and for the most part no one ****s them off, because they've been playing well. Naismith also does and everyone gets on his back because he's utter gash. Whereas Heitinga is a 'foreigner with a hard to pronounce name' (not hard like but you know) and he gets more stick than anyone. I think it's purely to do with on pitch performance.

You sayin us Limeys are racist? haha. No mate he`s had a bad season so far but he`s done well for Everton over the time he`s been here. Hope he gets a run of good form and we carry on moving up the table.Nothing to do with were he comes from buddy, although we always love players who are sexy with hard to pronounce names.

says more about his competition than personal achievements. he's been a top top keeper for us, but for a year and a half now he's been making a lot of mistakes that he shoudln't be making. he also should have been dropped this season by now which would have ended this streak. Anyway, he's been a bit better in the last 3 games, but instead of using the 3rd least conceded argument - try and use the vital saves that he was not expected to make argument, because i think he'd be last in that one. can only really remember a couple of good saves vs swansea this season. most of the rest have been routine
