The problem is having the funds to pay for someone who could challenge him. Because the guys they're bringing in for workouts and trials are no competition.

I think given our situation, if you're looking to give him some competition in the January window, it will be someone on the downside of their careers looking for playing time or having something to prove (cheap). Like a (gulp) Given or ideally someone like Friedel, though I don't think he's leaving Spurs.

It isn't going to be someone coming in that we'll all have a ton of confidence in from the start, I don't think.

1 mistake this season.

Howard's cost us 8 points at least.

Howard has been bad, but to say he's cost us 8 points on his own is wrong. Coleman, Johnny, Neville, and a couple others have helped plenty in that regard. How bout we finish some of our chances and those points are still with us? Howard is playing terribly this season, but he's also becoming a scapegoat.

I think you'll find they're getting plenty of blame in their own threads mate. Don't pass the buck, he's absolutely awful at the moment.

But no one's said that Heitinga has cost us 8 points. Or that Coleman has cost us 8 points. Though they are getting slated as you say. This is part of the problem though. In the case of the outfield players we've normally got more options to change them, whereas in Howard's case, the remedy looks worse than the disease.

I reckon Heitinga has cost us a couple, Coleman 4, based on lazy guesses and emotive thoughts. And we haven't changed the problem players out of choice, they've been forced changes due to injury. Nobody has been dropped because of a mistake that I can think of this season, which must piss Barkley off no end after that pass vs QPR last year!
