I agree mate. I don`t think Gordon is the answer.

If we are truly going to get competition in to challenge, it has to be real competition. Gordon isn't the answer. I don't know Butland, but based on what folks have said about his performances and his age, he seems like real competition. We might not have the money though.

Gordon would be a bandaid approach, and if we do that, I would also rather take Friedel.

But that's just it, he's there for when the outfield players can not effectively stop the ball from going towards the goal. It's his job to try and save the team from conceding, the last line of defence. When it comes down to the bare bones of it, it's a solo job that he has to deal with on his own.

Regardless of how often he's been exposed, he has shown himself to be consistently not up to saving the team in these circumstances, which was perhaps his defining positive attribute because it certainly wasn't his ability to deal with crosses or to save long shots.

His "good" games now seem to be when he makes routine saves that any Premier League keeper should be easily making and not making a serious error that costs us a goal.

Don't agree with this. He's our player, and I'd like to give him the chance to recover while pushing him.

I don't yet think it's the time to sell because of the saves he does make - like the other ones in this game, that show he's not "spent".

I'd like to give him the chance to come out of this. But I agree something needs to change. In this situation there is usually a challenger to come off the bench and make Tim take time off, and reassess. We don't have that.

that was a decent stop but it was straight at him and was poor finishing.Ive always thought Tim as being a decent goalie but this year his mistakes are far too often.

He gets paid to make these saves, that's his job, the amount of **** ups this season is beyond the joke though, he is a liability who is costing us far too many points now.

exactly, and he's still playing well. He made about 3/4 routine saves today vs newcastle that were exactly/harder than what howard had to save today. he made a few half blunders last month but no real howlers. He's playing well without any competition and that's why i believe all this howard needs competition stuff is nonsence. Think gordon would be a good solution, just till the end of the season and take it from there. don't think we have th funds for butland, but we definitely need two keepers to replace the ones we have now. There aren't too many prem teams with worse alternatives.

Howard use to be a great shot stopper but now that has gone. Can't believe people's defence of he saved that one on one. One save a game and a GK's position should be untenable? laughable. Also, jerome hit it straight at him, it was a poor finish rather than a save. Like Goat said - he's spent. All the american defendants will jump on my back because i'm probably "nit-picking" again but every game i seem to come on here and ask questions about something he's done.

at least he looked confident from crosses punching - only positive. think he may have got lucky again when jones hit the post with another half arsed starfish jump - will have to see it again
