Yeah. But we weren't talking about the 50s. We were talking about the 70s and 80s. And as for the 50s, absolutely they were backed by Franco. But the overall picture shows that this was not the norm in the game - which is my point. In the 1950s, it was still possible for clubs of any size to win the league in England. Six different clubs did so. Even in Franco's Spain, Real Madrid won only four of the 10 titles in the 1950s. Barcelona won three, Atletico won two, and Athletic the other. In the modern game, you have to go back to Valencia in 2004 for the last time another club other than the big three won the Spanish title. So it is now unequivocally less competitive then even under Franco.

You were talking about state sponsored teams and commented that the originals were the eastern/soviet teams of the 70s…. I just wanted to draw your attention to Franco doing it before the soviets took Hungary.
