My older son is named Ian and he's very glad it isn't scoring a direct hit on Nana and Pop-Pop's house (aka my parents' house) in Tampa.

Still going to be rough there but about the same as what they've seen, and I've seen, in the past.

Minor issue compared to what Florida is going through, but the remnants will be going through Charlotte about the time my flight is meant to be landing there.

It's like they haven't been told it's going to come back and when it does it's not going to gently roll in to give them time to get away.

That happened a few years ago with another hurricane that passed south and east of Tampa. The bay drains out from north to south around the counterclockwise flow. Once the storm passes its latitude the water comes back in as the wind starts blowing in from offshore. It will flood but not nearly as bad as if the storm had come ashore there.

Earlier today there was a tidal gauge near the US Air Force base there that read -5 feet!
