Credit where its due, he was much, much better today, made some great tackles, an aspect of his game that was never in doubt to be fair, and was much less wasteful with ball. I found he was turning the ball over much quicker than he usually does, and playing the simple ball much more often. He still went gung-ho a few times and left gaps, but the team as a whole pressed better today, so wasn't as noticeable, and the few misplaced passes didn't hurt us.

A note about Davies though, I read a lot of criticism of him today, which I think is totally unfair. I thought he played really well too and looked to be getting a bit of his confidence/swagger back. I think it's a little lopsided to praise how good Gueye and Sigurdsson were today on the one hand, and with the other, stick it to Davies. I actually came out of the game thinking either something had clicked and we were starting to get Silvas game plan, or that Fulham were really poor, but I would say between Gueye, Sigurdsson, Davies, Keane, and Kenny all played the best I've seen them play, certainly in a long time, and even Pickford was far more decisive in his decision making for the Mitrovic chance, and even slightly less erratic in his distribution.

But yeah, much better from Gana today. Plays like that more often and I've got no problem with him. Still don't think he was MOTM like some though. That would go to either Kenny or Keane for me, both excellent.

Crap in the first half but much better in the second. Far better than Davies.

How was he crap? Repeatedly won the ball back for us, which he improved on in the 2nd half. He played a few sloppy passes but when the rest of his game was as good as it was yesterday in terms of what he is in the side to do, it's reasonable to cut him some slack.

If a striker scores 2 but misses 2 easier chances, have they had a crap game? No player is faultless for 90 minutes.

Did he really? In the first half he did little to nothing at all, except for getting turned off the ball & as you mentioned making sloppy passes.

If you read what I said, I never claimed he had a crap game. He had a crap first half, which he massively improved on in the second.

Said it for years.

Put him defensive midfielder on his tod. Tell him to hassle the living [beeeeep] out of any opposition player in possession in our final third and when in possession, lay it off to the nearest player.

We're diluting his game playing him alongside another defensive midfielder, and he's god awful on the ball. His talent is off it, so lets stop asking him to play box to box.

^ Had a couple of games without Schneiderlin and looks ten times the player.

Schneiderlin is his kryptonite.

I think it's more that Schneiderlin wants to sit, so this means Gueye has to be the more progressive midfielder of the two

When he's paired with Davies, Davies is happier to go forward more, so it releases the pressure off Gueye to be the box-to-box player and to concentrate on what he does best (winning the ball and making tackles)

Same goes for Schneiderlin TBF (as much as I'm not his biggest fan), he suffers when paired with Gueye. They're not really compatible as a pair in a team that wants to progress the ball through midfield.

That's exactly what it is IMO.

I'm forever crying about it;

Again.

Gueye and Schneiderlin doesnt work.

Off the ball - diluted responsibility. Almost get in eachothers way.

On the ball - both cant pass the ball forward never mind create anything.

Nullify Everton's wingers/width, and we have nothing.
