He still has at least a couple of years at this level after this season ends. He is extremely fit. Claude Makelele, possibly the best ever exponent of Gana's art, was already over 30 before he signed for Chelsea. He then had 5 very successful seasons there and STILL went on to spend a further 3 seasons at PSG.

At the moment I would even go as far as to say that he's in his prime. Who better to groom Beni Baningime to hopefully take over from him in due course.

Top defensive midfielder. With the right midfielder alongside him (hopefully Gomes who seems a really top bloke as well as footballer) he's good enough to take us forward in my book.

Hopefully you're right however football jas evolved since the days of Makelele imo and todays opposition are more and more like athletes.

It's not just Schneiderlin, it is having any type of player next to him that is as similarly limited as he is in carrying the ball forward and playing attacking passes with intent regularly. Davies and McCarthy are in the same bracket as Schneiderlin for that in my opinion as both can be effective in what they do but don't have the ability to play 25-30 yard balls or to carry it forward and play incisive passes. With Gomes yesterday we had that. Gareth Barry was that type of player too.

Gana is 2nd to Kante in the whole league in that position for me, and hopefully Gomes will be the player who can allow him to get on with doing what he does best, without unrealistic expectations placed on him and we see more of the Gana from his first few months here. Been great in the last 2 home games.

I agree with pretty much all of this to be honest. Schneiderlin is not a poor footballer but his style isn't right for this team and in truth his general approach doesn't connect with Evertonians.

I think Gomes has much better mobility than Barry, as a key difference. I think that helps Gana, who probably struggles to link midfield to attack.
 

Showed how he can be at hist best when he plays alongside Gomes-like number 8. Fighter.
