Gomes is the problem here. He's so good he makes all our other players look world class. Get rid of him and our other players look average again, so nobody wants them. Problem solved.

So basically it’s a condescending term towards defensive midfielders? It’s one thing if you don’t rate him. I understand people have different opinions. But what are you trying to imply here? That he can easily be replaced?

Read my posts. I'll summarise briefly, never said easily replaced never said i don't rate him. Depends on your perception whether it's a condescending term or not. As i said read what I've written and you'll see, or don't and we'll have a childish back in forth in place of our lives ha ha

We have no one and I mean no one who is remotely at Gana level in the position he plays
That Wilfred Barrios lad from South America is aayer who’s been mentioned on here who could possibly replace him but doesn’t seem to cover as much ground
Since Kante moved further forward there is no one in the PL who comes close to Gana in terms of tackles and possession won
I read somewhere he’s the top of the stats in Europe for some of those things

Of anyone linked over the last year, I'd say Hector Herrera is one of the few I've seen who could kinda fill that role, nowhere near the Duracell bunny that gueye is though.

The thing is though, in this style of play, the water carrier role is a hugely important one. Gueye's ability to cover ground and win the ball back up high up the pitch is key to the whole system, take it out and it will affect everybody's performances. The same applies to Sigurdsson, which is why I just can't imagine people are right when they say Dowell would be first in line to replace him. Sigurdsson's workrate and upper body strength have been a big aspect of our play so far, replacing him with somebody who is almost the exact opposite of him in those areas would make absolutely no sense to me.

Dowell won't make it at any top club, unless he suddenly develops a great workrate and desire he's otherwise never shown to date before.

Days of carrying a fair type player in any team near the top are long gone, just look at the ground players like Silva, De Bruyne, and other top playmakers cover - including siggurdsson and Ericksen.

It’s definitely condescending as you then refer to the other players as “actual players”. What did you consider barry? A water carrier or an actual player? As he did the dirty work but while he also had legs he was also a class act.

Those that have watched him over the years and rate him will tell you he goes missing in games
You want us to change the way our midfield play and therefore our forward because we change one player
Gana easily replaced , the same Gana that has the best stats in Europe at what he’s asked to do

Biggest crime the last two years is us effectively playing with ten men for both years by playing a second DM next to gana, one of the few players in the league easily capable of filling that role by himself.

Makelele was able to adjust his game as he got older and wasn't charging around half as much, more in common with Gaz Barry than Gana. I may be wrong but i don't see that sort of footballing intelligence in Gana

You don't win that many tackles and ball recoveries, interceptions etc unless you have a great reading of the game mate, otherwise any lad with a good engine would be doing the job.
