Idrissa Gueye

He's from a place where it's still not accepted, religious dogma is to blame, these kids are brainwashed from an early age in very religious countries. He just needs educating, gay people are just people like anyone else. It's hard too judge him on beliefs he has had drilled into him from a young age.
He's also been living in Europe for nearly 15 years now, I think at this point it's just willful ignorance on his part, hiding behind the mask of religion as an excuse.

It wasn't that long ago even in the UK that being anti-gay wasn't such a shocking stance to hold. Society and individuals can change their position on social issues quickly, clearly Idrissa has chosen not to.

Oh sorry pal, didn't know living in Europe trumped your religious beliefs. Just because we find it a bit backward, certain parts of the world and cultures are not as progressive as us in the West, sometimes we need to understand that and stop thinking we are above everyone else. Blame religion or at least the interpretation of it that Gueye knows.

The UK has came a long way in accepting (even though I still feel this is a particularly gross word within this context) the gay community.
I accept the fact that there is almost an element of brainwashing to certain, abhorrent mindsets and I almost want to commend Gueye for at least staying schtum with his archaic viewpoint (let's be honest it could have been much, much worse if he had publically aired his views via a verbal/written statement) but I'll stop short of that.
The truth of the matter is that a substantial portion of any population, whether Muslim, Christian, Hindu, athiest, are gay, it's not a choice but a natural matter to them.
Anyone who feels obligated to hate on people for something they can't control should also feel obligated, as human beings, to keep their traps well and truly shut but unfortunately that's not the world we live in.

If his biggest crime is to refuse to wear a football shirt because of his beliefs then I think everyone should just let him be. It's between Idrissa and PSG to sort out.

If however he comes out with comments that are blatantly homophobic and he starts expressing his beliefs in a hateful way then it's a bit different. That needs to be dealt with.

We're all entitled to our own beliefs. We just need to control how we express those beliefs to others.

It's possible for people to be inwardly homophobic but to outwardly do no harm to the LGBTQ+ community.

We are shaped by our environment, so yes to a certain extent it will have trumped his religious beliefs. It's not about being 'above everyone else' it's about respecing and standing up for basic human rights.

Religion is of course largely to blame but doesn't mean individuals are above condemnation for their own beliefs.

100% this. Blame the disgusting religion he follows.

Some people within that "disgusting religion" are gay mate.
I'm far from religious but there has to be condemnation within the correct parameters otherwise it's being incredibly unfair to millions/billions of decent people who do find comfort (for whatever reason (ie. lost loved ones) within their chosen religion.

I just cannot stand it mate, some of it is literally stone age beliefs and has no place in modern society. I know there are gay Muslim people, like, which must be awful for them given the punishments that await them if they're outed.

Your principles are commendable mate, although, without trying to sound patronising, it's best not to judge an entire religion for the actions of a segment.
Otherwise we're just going full circle.
