I think Dyche would be a mug for changing the Garner Onana midfield partnership. They compliment each other very nicely. When he has played Gana and Onana in midfield with Garner on the right, the balance isn’t right. And at times with Doucoure dropping deep and Garner coming inside, there seems “Too many Cooks”.
It took him about 6 games after game changing mistakes with Keane last season to finally drop him.
So don't hold your breath.

I don't think there are too many cooks, but rather a mixture of sous chefs who have apprentices under different Cooks. Garner on the right is not a bad tactical option, and against the RS, he may start with the same formation laid out today with Doucoure replaced by Danjuma/Beto (depends on training). RS during the match go 3 at the back meaning the villa formation must be able to materialize from the 4-4-1-1 formation. This is why I think having Garner out-wide is not a bad idea if Doucoure plays as the second striker (drift left).

What I meant was the structure and discipline seems has been excellent when it’s just been Onana and Garner in central midfield. They both seem to have an excellent understanding of what they’re doing as a pairing. If you move Garner out to the right and introduce Gana, I think that goes out the window and you end up with situations where Doucoure has dropped deeper you want him and Garner goes too narrow or too wide. The Onana, Garner pairing holds the shape of the team together nicely. It allows the wide men to stay wide and the forwards to stay high.
It also seems to have eased the pressure on the backline and allows the full backs to move out to the width of the pitch, knowing that there’s protection from the central midfielders in front of Tarks and Branthwaite.

With Garner out wide, Onana or Gueye often opt to drop deep into the pocket before the two CBs, the other Doucoure, Onana/Gueye, and Garner form that box which is supplemented by McNeil or Harrison. The whole game plan seems to be from the centre rather than to work the channels, and if we need crosses in they tend to be early ones in the box mostly. Only proper crosses seem to be fullbacks.

But it wasn’t working, there seemed to be no discipline with regard to anyone sitting in front of the back 4, they all went pressing and left a massive space in front of the centre halves. With Garner and Onana it seems to work. They still press but Onana will usually sit in front of Tarks and Branthwaite.

Actually it seemed like it did in that Brentford and Luton game, but the players just seemed to be surprised they were in possession. All that ball working in training would have helped.

It is a pity that injury didn't happen before the Luton game if it had to happen at all.
I think we will see him drift from being a certain starter to more of a squad player.

I think the opposition could determine if he plays or not. As someone said earlier, if fit, he could easily play against Liverpool for his defensive qualities but not as play maker and don't ever ever ever let him shoot at goal.

100% he'll be back in the starting 11 if fit.

When Dyche was asked about Onana and rumours of him being late so he got dropped he said it wasn't the case at all, he wanted Gueye in there for his experience and that's why Onana was dropped.

Gueyes experience.....for Bournemouth.....at home. So if he thinks we need his experience for Bournemouth at home, he'll definitely want him in midfield against the rs away.
Yep. Dyche got lucky. Sadly Gana should not be starting

Harrison, Garner, Doucs, Onana, McNeil
