why should he be benched for simply fulfilling his international commitments whilst his successors have played well in his absence?

its going to be hard to accommodate him given how well the team is playing atm but I would certainly prefer him to be starting ahead of barry for starters.

You can only tell so much in training. Not every player pays like he trains.

I'm not saying that mate. But atm the team is playing well, which means players who want to be in the team have to play well to stand a chance.

If not they'll be deemed surplus (in areas we have other options of course) and will be moved on should a good offer come in.

Thing is, with Gueye, Schneiderlin and Davies (plus McCarthy at a stretch), we have plenty of mobile DMs, meaning we can rotate them if need be with no appreciative dropoff in calibre.

Why should Davies be benched after assisting and scoring like he has ... all while putting in a mom performance and covering more ground that any player on the pitch (for both teams) in every match he's played in?

Exactly and having this calibre of depth will be a massive feather in the cap

Although Barkley has been better of late, I'm not sure he gets in to our best starting eleven, at least in some games.
