What makes you think Walsh has recommended him?

You have to bare in mind when Walsh was at Leicester he was tasked with buying risky cheap players who would hopefully prove more than their value and do a job to keep Leicester up. Yes he's found a few gems who won them the league. Fantastic. But the chances of finding players like that are slim overall

As a club who wants top four I thought we'd be after proven quality rather than risky cheap shots
Because he is our DOF and he is in charge of player recruitment. Said that in his interview. I'm not happy with this potential signing, but walshs track record suggests, he can spot a player, otherwise why would he have got the job here?

he didn't do any of that for Villa though mate (granted I know they're awful), and think McCarthy deserves a chance to re-find his form of the first season and a half at us tbh.

Yes he does but, he is not positive enough, sideways and backwards. At least this other guy has a go.

I think this is a very astute post mate so thanks for it. The art of finding out what you require from a player and finding those that do it best is a unique skill in football. It's funny as when you watched Leicester last season that's what it looked like, a group of lads being asked to do jobs they were familiar with ands comfortable at. The Centre Halves wellied balls away. Drinkwater covered every blade of grass. Vardy ran channels, Albrighton worked the right hand side, Oziaki ran himself into the ground etc.

Without being harsh on Gueye Villa were the opposite of this. Badly managed and run teams often are. Not only that but if the quality in front of him was limited then a player like Gueye or Kante would not stand out. You would probably even here shouts of "doesn't score enough goals, not creative enough" etc etc, Their job is to tackle and pass the ball to better players but if the players they pass to aren't playing well they will be shown up.

As it happens this signing looks like the Walsh affect. I imagine he probably scouted the lad, as he played in the same league as Kante, was signed the same summer as him and is a very similar player. Likewise he also has a lot of similarities to the replacement you have bought. I am not saying he is as good as either but he's in that mould. People wondered what Walsh would bring to us and I imagine there will be a lot of signings/players akin to this lad. Unpolished potential gems. I think the links with him and Arnautovic smack me of Walsh, finding out release clauses and making astute signings.

I don't know if he will be a success but I am willing to forgive his time at Villa as he was pretty well rated at Lille. I suspect Barry will be out the door and McCarthy may well follow him. We could look to bring in 2 or 3 cm players to fill the gap. What I like about this lad is as the fella says above he seems to have a clear defined role of what he is good at. I think that would be a useful addition at a reasonable price.

We were big into "value" we'd often target free transfers, release clauses, people coming into their last year. Specificially because sometimes they presented the greatest value and good deals were there to be done.

People shouldn't just focus on him finding gems, what he did here was bring in a strategy that made us an exceptionally well run club. We always tried to get the most we could for money. With him and Pearson here I've honestly never felt like the club was in better hands as they treated every penny like it was their own.

His eye for a player, team building, the processes he'll bring on the stats / analytics sides. At the very worst, you're going to be brilliantly run behind the scenes and be ahead of the game... hence why every man and his dog wanted to poach all our staff. If you stay one step ahead and embrace new innovations, the gems will come. We were developing our own software years ago, it gave us things other didn't have... as an example.

Walsh isn't just someone who signs cheap players.

Thing that excites me the most, long term wise is the fact he signs players who fit into the team. Hence why Leiscter won the league, sum of all parts was better because they all played the tactics perfectly.

So long term, I would expect our transfers to be less signing some big name player for a fortune and more signing a player who is most likely to be the ideal for the role we want them to play.

It's too early to judge any of them now but give it 2 years and see if this philosophy has worked for us

Given our revenues compared to the clubs we want to compete with, we need to be able to profit from player sales to allow us to increase our wages.

There is a reason that we employed Walsh as DOF.

It's to generate profits from players. It's his apparent speciality.

I fully expect us to sign 'value' players along with 'established' players.
