Yes, he was. And I agree, most of his issues were probably up to the coaching, but some of Stones mistakes were not coached into him or out of him, they were his and his only. No reason to sugar coat it, and make him up to something he isnt(at least not yet).

like what? the overplaying (that cost us one one, maybe two occasions?) yeh - that was his fault.

he missed a header or few. so did Jags and Mori, and Baines and Coleman and Barry and McCarthy. It happens, and wasn't helped at all by inept coaching.

The overplaying was, at times, school boy level mistakes, but easy to coach out I would think. A tighter leach on him, and he would stop with that sillyness.
His over all positioning during crosses or setpieces and his inability to head/clear the ball in dangerous positions is what worries me the most.
 
Name the better centre backs.

I think you've missed my point mate. I mean you end up trying to kid yourself cause they're leaving, looking for reasons why you'll be better off in the long run, when ultimately your just gutted that the best defender Everton have had for over 20 years is getting off to some other club.
