yep, only way 4th gets jibbed off to Europa is if the CL AND EL winners are prem clubs AND outside the top 4. as esk said it's very unluckyAs stated, if Chelsea win the champions league but finish anything outside the top 4, they get entered into the CL. Top 4 still is in as well.
I'm sure @The Esk said this before but I'm going to pretend like I'm the first.
Wrong. If Chelsea win the CL and finish outside the top 4, they will enter the CL and 4th will miss out.As stated, if Chelsea win the champions league but finish anything outside the top 4, they get entered into the CL. Top 4 still is in as well.

Yes, I'm aware of the extra 5th CL place, but the fact remains that if the winner of the CL does not finish in the top 4 of their domestic league, they will assume the place of the 4th placed side.Sorry mate but UEFA changed the rules to allow a maximum of 5 teams to enter the CL from any one league.
The only situation where 4th misses out is if both the CL and EL are won by teams who do not finish in the top 4. In this case 4th drops down to the EL.

Been that way for a few years now. This extra place for the EL winner is a new thing but is completely separate from the top 4 placings. That bad news to be fair.

Fair enough Esk, wasn't aware of that. That's not correct, that is the old rules which hit Spurs when Chelsea won the CL.
Current regulations:
Rule 3.08
Exceptionally, an association may be represented by five clubs in the competition
if the UEFA Champions League and/or UEFA Europa League titleholder does not
also qualify through its domestic championship.
So if Chelsea won the CL but finished below 4th it would have no bearing on 4th's qualification.
If both the CL and EL winners have not qualified for the CL through domestic qualification then 4th place drops down to EL.
Depending upon whether they would have qualified for the EL or not also alters the number of EL entrants (rule 3.09 para A, B and C)
No. 5th place does not earn champions league. So we would like the champion league to be won by one of the top 4 and 5th will also get CL or Man u to win the europa cup and get a place in the top 4
