With Beattie gone - and good luck to him. I can't help thinking that missing out on Smith and Nugent could prove worse than I initially thought - cause who is really available and within our range?

Yakubu I think will move, but he will be too expensive for us.
The same with Defoe.
Does that leave us with a Marlon King or Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink?

Otherwise Moyes will have to look abroad and he is not exactly known to do that.

Best option IMO would be Rafeal van der Vaart of Hamburg. He bangs them in on a regular bases but has recently been linked with Real Madrid, so a bid for him might tricker one from Real.

So who could we possibly sign?

How many strikers do we need? We have three fit players now with AJ, Anichebe and McFadden. Vaughan will be back in a few months and we have quite a few young strikers coming through that may play a part this season. I don't want to see an ageing stop gap signed just for the sake of it and with Moyes bringing in a host of young strikers into the youth system I'd say he sees that as the future rather than loading us with big money signings up front.

we can't rely on mcfadden (because he is [Poor language removed]) or the teenagers if we want successful season. imagine aj gets injured again. *shudder*

now cahill and vaughan are out the time is right for a signing.

We definitely need a striker- we cant rely on Vaughan and Victor- they are still developing and would be unfair to put too much pressure on them. Viduka would have been a good one, maybe a foreigner Im not sure.

McFadden and Anichebe arnt good enough, leaving AJ the only good enough stiker at the club fit, and 1 striker for the first 11 is not good enough, we definitely need another striker, but at this late stage I dont think its gonna happen now.

I'll bet all you mcfadden bashers were'nt slaggin him when he scored that wonder goal last season, if the lad was given more of a chance we might see more from him. There is surely no doubting the lads got talent, just lacks a bit of pace if anythin.

Faddy

I actually hope Faddy makes it at Everton because there is no doubting his quality. I feel he is a confidence player and this is where the problem is. I know that he is not that keen on Moyes as he feels he has favourites. Perhaps this is where we will see the best of Faddy as he can prove his worth to Moyes at a time when Moyes HAS to play him. He just wants to play football and would move ANYWHERE to do it. He was looking for a move over the summer! I just remember his first game against Leeds and how lethal he was. Some of his goals show how talented he is. Perhaps this striker shortage is a blessing in diguise and we will start to see the consistency to go along with his undooubted talent.

McFadden has the potential if he isn't stuck out on the left wing, good pace, nice skill (when not surrounded by eight) and a good finisher.

He needs a run in the team, no time like the present.

P.S. some statto correct me if I'm wrong, BUT I have a sneaky feeling had fadden took the penalties BT scored (and scored em) that he would have been our top goal scorer instead of BT.

Van Der Vaart would be great but unfortunately, he's also way way out of our price range. I'm a bit miffed that we didn't get Smith but I do think this should give McFadden a chance to stake his claim up front. I'd like to see him get a run of games up front and enough of this one game up front, one game out wide junk.
