If we're going for a new striker

yes.. i agree that missing smith was a bit of a bind. smith and aj against wigan would have been energetic!

mcfadden sadly did not go to derby for 5 million. thats all i have to say about him.

Smith would be good, sad we missed him. Not sure about this one though since he apparently didn't play much last season. But the prize is right, but after playing at Barca.. imagine his wagedemands.

We need another striker... doesn't matter how great Vaughan & Anichebe is and how good Lukas will develop. Putting that much pressure on players so young isn't right. Not many will cope with it, most will break under that pressure. Even when we had Rooney, Moyes didn't let him play that many whole games just to play it safe with him, so he wouldn't break or get too much pressure.

Could be worth a punt. The guy might get a second wind and if hes free, it would depend on the wage. I think the type of player Moyes is looking for is the perfect attacking Midfielder, someone with an old head to balance the younger guys and teaching McFads, The cheeb and Vaughnasaurus, linking with Arteta and feeding Cahill, while Johnson stretches the defences with his XR5 turbos. This guy could orchestrate plenty working to supply our pacey yet young and dangerous attack.

Jagielka is Carsley Jr for mine, he'll slot in perfectly after a couple of stirling cameos in fullback when Cars wants a spell. Hopefully Baines and Arteta down the left, captain Nev and Pinaar?? Ossie?? Andy Van der Shanders?? Still a hole whiche ever side doesnt have Arteta, but if got hope for Anderson to step up into the mix.

The key position Moyes needs to fill is in the hole, hopefully the right will evolve but we need the maestro. Signing Gonzalez and or this guy could be a sign of pure genious that will destroy the league, or at best fix the link to the attack

mcbain... words per post you are a legend!

interesting about the hole position.. recoba? please moyes!!

Isn't Recoba up in the years??

just turned 31. but what a player and that left foot is a wand!!! inter are releasing him this summer.. very unlikely but it would be supreb!

the only reason i think this is that i saw uruguay play korea a few months back at seoul w/c stadium and he controlled the entire game. i'd love some one with the ball at his feet just outside the oppositions box knowing he was about to do something really funky and cool. and imagine the fight over the free kicks with him and arteta!

I'm with you on that as well. He could do the business for us. Wages would be a sticking point though.

(Who am I kidding? Wages for any player would be a sticking point with us...)

Lets say he'd settle for a 2-year contract, about what Moyes is prepared to offer a player above 30 I think.

Would you pay £2M for a player of his caliber and give him 50k/week? Then if we do get him for free the £2M could be divided onto his wage and we could offer him £0M in signingbonus and a weekly wage of £70k for the same amount of cash. Don't think he'll go for it though, but the amount of cash would be the same.

Believe me, its a blessing that we missed out on Smith and Nugent, i personally think that Newcastle and Pompey have overpaid for them anyway. Defoe is too similar to AJ so that rules him out. Yakubu is a player i have always admired and i believe he would compliment AJ superbly, sadly i think he is out of our price range, same goes for my other suggestion Nicolas Anelka. Both would force us to break the transfer record yet again.

So we are looking for a cut-price striker, hmmmm. Solskjaer (although that would add fuel to the Man United feeder club fire) wouldn't be a bad signing, add a fair bit of experience to our pretty young frontline. Emile Mpenza from City would be an interesting one, Dickov or Vassel seem surplus there too. Forssel at Birmingham was on fire a few years back.

Jason Roberts at Blackburn. Kanu or Lua Lua will have to go from Pompey. Kevin Doyle at Reading was impressive last year although he could be pricey too. Henri Camara at Wigan has always caught my eye too. Wouldnt mind seeing him here. I think any of those players would improve our frontline.

ha ha!! yes the problem is dylan is that that is the stadiums name! it's a bit gay esp. as the w/c was 5 years ago now!

there is talk of them dropping the w/c name and calling it sangam. i might start calling it that myself that. the problem is that the other 9 w/c stadiums here are all called w/c stadiums! imagine wembly being called london w/c stadium. it would be crap. the koreans need to get creative with the names and quick.

so yes it was a great game at sangam!

Agree that Recoba was a top class player a few years ago, but you have to take into account that he's been playin serie A football for most of his career. Don't think he'd be able to adapt he's game from that pedestrian pace to the premiership at such a late stage in his career. plus he's very lightweight and would probably get kicked of the park :D
