If You Were Braithwaite..

If I was any Everton player, other than Michael Keane or Ashley Young, I wouldn't sign anything with this set up and 777 in the wings. No agent on the planet is going to advise signing up at this moment in time.
Don’t think that would stop them tbh, it’s cash in the bank for both player and agent regardless.
Don’t forget the minute they sign they are due the entirety of that contact value, so if he’s on £25k now (3y left) and is offered a new £60k per week one (say 4y), that’s a choice of guarantee himself another £3.9m on the current one or £12.4m on the new one.
Won’t really stop him moving on if / when he wants (for even more than £60k/w most likely) and de-risks his future should he have serious (or god forbid career ending) injury.

At the end of this season he'll have one year left. If he decided to go, we would have a big disadvantage in negotiations, Branthwaite and his agent know that. One year of lower wages for much greater control over where you go next is tempting for a smart lad like Branthwaite.

Thought he was contracted to 25 with another 1 year option? Edit just checked - you are correct June 25.
Regardless, he’s in the driving seat should he want to move imo, new contract or not.
The clubs that will be after him won’t mind a big fee and at his age it’s money well spent.
So the offer dynamic becomes 24 x £15k (according to sporttrac) stick with £1.5m left on your deal or take a 4y £60k one at £12.4m.
In my opinion of course.

We'll see soon enough. My bet is he won't be signing anything anytime soon.

This week he was asked about whether we were offering Branthwaite a new contract and he said “he’s on a long term contract here at the moment”. His contract runs out in 2025 so he’s not on a long term contract. If you don’t want to talk about it just say that - don’t say he’s on a long term contract when he’s obviously not and everyone knows it.

Right now I'd be thinking I'm the first choice centre half at a Premier League team at 21 and want that to carry on. I don't see too many options for him other than siginging another contract here.
