Is This the Worst Period in Our History

The last ten years have been beyond depressing. All we've had is a few individual good results in generally drab seasons. Lukaku carrying the team for a few seasons; brief moments under Silva; Ancelotti raising our hopes before quitting; then almost constant gloom with a few matches here and there like the 5 - 1 V Brighton and beating the RS last season.

What do we think? I think personally, now is worse than the 90s as i feel the gap from relegation fodder and becoming good again has got so much larger,
If you look at yesterday's games, there really isn't much in it, from top to bottom, being clinical with chances to score is the key.

Hold no fear of our next group of opponents anyone can beat anyone this season, five subs, PSR and glut of extra fixtures will start to level things up over the festive period.

Undoubtedly yes, this is the worst era of Evertonia.

In the 90s, Everton still had the status and spending power of a big club.

When we got relegated in 1929 or 1930, we had previously won the league in 1928, immediately won the 2nd division upon going down, won the first division again in 31 or 32 followed by the FA Cup on 33.

In the 50s, Everton's longest spell outside the top flight. They had a young side and icons like Hickson, it was also a time when a team could come back up and be contenders again. Older heads I've spoken to still looking at the 50s very fondly.

Now, the club's very existence hangs in the balance, we are in our most barren trophyless spell, and the finances of football means that the odds of us ever becoming a title challenging side again are very low. The best we can hope for now at least is us scumming an FA Cup one year or maybe having a good run in the conference league should we qualify.

So with that giant tyre fire in mind, we also have gallons of petrol poured on it daily with the advent of social media allowing the most toxic elements of our fandom to embed itself into the very fabric of the club.

Despite all this, I do remain optimistic that the dawn is coming, but it's most certainly the worst time to be a blue right now.

The last sentence is a big thing I think. I get the impression that some people really don't understand just how far behind we are these days and how difficult it will be to get back up there. We are absolutely miles away from the top 6 now, we need virtually an entirely new team to be competing at that level, that's how bad things have got.

Yeah, Pickford and Branthwaite are the only players we have that a top 6 side would possibly want, though I believe Gana could slot in to one of their teams, though maybe not City. Maybe you could make a case for Ndiaye, but he'd be seeing a lot of the bench you feel.

Think this period is the worst, 70s/80s even the start of the 90s we were seen as a massive club and always felt that success was close, cup runs , league challenges, now I don't think we will see a trophy again the gap gets wider each year

As per the op; depends if we stay up or not.

Go down and we will be the club that spent a load of money on a stadium and couldn't keep it together on the pitch.

Survive; we sacrificed a few years financially for our lovely new home.

I think we stay up for what it's worth.

Older mates told me about those great awaydays.
Plymouth, Cardiff, Derby...you'll remember them
You should write a book.

Those fixtures brought back memories.

The Plymouth and Cardiff matches away, were as bad as Millwall.

Happy day's of 'The Blue Streak' train from Lime Street at 4 am.

But I can't recall these lovely ladies!

Yep, I went all games home and away during the Bingham and Lee era's.

No silverware, but some great players. and enjoyable football.

I now go the match out of blind loyalty.
I wouldn't go as far as to say the football under Bingham was great. Drew too many games which inevitably cost us the league. But we were usually there or thereabouts.

In line with that last sentence how do we see the recent seasons for Aston Villa?
